Hi everyone! :howdy: I'm new to the forums here, but you all seem like a great group of people. (bear with me, I'm still waking up good :coffee: ) I have a couple questions about my 13 mth old black lab pup. She's an awesome dog, extremely smart, and totally amazing behavior, but only with me. She's a momma's girl for sure. When people come over, she goes crazy and jumps, nibbles, wants to play. We take her out a lot and try to get her to go for rides, but she just lays behind the seat on the floor board and hides. Also, we had her where she was asking to go outside when she needs to go poop or potty and she still does that when she's gotta go potty, but when she's gotta poop, she just prances then squats, with no warning.

How can I get her to enjoy rides in the truck more? How can I keep her from jumping and nibbling when excited? How can we get her to start asking again??

Thank you for your help!!

She's not a pup-treat her like a "dog".
You might be to excited when you're trying to teach her something-assume control.
BTW-watch Dog Whisperer....

Hey Fubar and Softball! Thank you both for the reply. Fubar, I do treat her like a dog lol the pup was egh I toldja I'm not awake good yet  Gettin there though. Anyway, she's really smart. We got her when she was 2 mths old and by the time she was 3 mths, she was sitting, lying, speaking, whispering (quiet bark), shaking, high 5ing and high 10ing...she's really smart, but she's soooooo stubborn. I do assume control with her (at least I think I do lol) and I praise her like crazy when she does what she's supposed to.

Thanks for the links! I'll check em out!

Hi! :howdy:
One thing you may want to do to stop her from jumping up on people when they come in is to have her on a leash before you open the door. That way you have more control. Leave a leash by the door and have someone come and knock or ring the bell. Before opening the door tell her to sit and put on her leash. Try to keep her in the sit position while you open the door and not charge the door ahead of you. If she gets up, stop, get her back in the sit position, praise her and then continue to open the door or greet the person.
Leave the leash on her and tell her "off" if she tries to jump up on people. The person entering should not make a big fuss over her for a little while. Once she settles down you can take off the leash.

Just a little trick I was taught so my three wouldn't bulldoze people down.

Awesome. I'll try that later today and see what progress I can make. Thank you! She's such a good little guard dog so it'll be tough because when someone knocks, she charges the door and barks, but I definitely will try your suggestions. Again, Thank you!!
