6 Dr. Seuss books to stop publishing due to racist imagery

“These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong,” Dr. Seuss Enterprises told The Associated Press in a statement that coincided with the late author and illustrator’s birthday.

“Ceasing sales of these books is only part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ catalog represents and supports all communities and families,” it said.

The other books affected are “McElligot’s Pool,” “On Beyond Zebra!,” “Scrambled Eggs Super!,” and “The Cat’s Quizzer.”

The decision to cease publication and sales of the books was made last year after months of discussion, the company told AP.

“Dr. Seuss Enterprises listened and took feedback from our audiences including teachers, academics and specialists in the field as part of our review process. We then worked with a panel of experts, including educators, to review our catalog of titles,” it said.

Books by Dr. Seuss — who was born Theodor Seuss Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1904 —- have been translated into dozens of languages as well as in braille and are sold in more than 100 countries. He died in 1991.

Critics also have faulted the “Curious George” books for their premise of a white man bringing home a monkey from Africa.

The attack on Dr. Seuss as somehow racist traces back to the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), a far-left smear factory known for branding mainstream conservative and Christian organizations as “hate groups” and listing them along with the Ku Klux Klan. The SPLC’s education arm, formerly Teaching Tolerance but now known as “Learning for Justice,” issued a report condemning Dr. Seuss books for signs of “Orientalism” and “anti-blackness.” Learning for Justice promotes Marxist critical race theory in public schools.

Loudoun County Public Schools, a Virginia school district known for its leftist tilt, removed Dr. Seuss books from its library shelves last week, ahead of the week celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday. (LCPS has also adopted SPLC curriculum in its elementary schools.)

Fitting the theme of Marxist critical race theory — which teaches that hidden “structural racism” permeates American society, a society that must be deconstructed and upended — Learning for Justice claimed that the characters in Dr. Seuss books were “virtually 100 percent white,” save for a small minority of people of color. Of the 2,240 human characters in the books, only 45 characters appeared to be racial minorities, and “43 exhibited behaviors and appearances that align with harmful and stereotypical Orientalist tropes.”

These psychos need to be gathered, tossed in padded rooms with doors that can never be opened again.

I told my LW to gather every Dr. Seuss book in her classroom and we'll put them with the ones we have at home and we'll just run a black market children's book ring. I'll have a copy of "Song of the South" under bullet proof glass sitting behind our matching red velvet covered thrones. Scarface and Cersei will be our street names.

I can see the problem - provided that the back story includes George having been captured by another "tribe" of monkeys and sold George to the middle eastern monkeys, who sold them to the white man.

WaPo Correspondent: Pulling Dr. Seuss Not ‘Cancel Culture,’ Your Culture Is Just Garbage

“If curtailing racist imagery in Dr. Seuss is ‘cancel culture,’ what, exactly, is your culture?” questioned Bump.

Bump argued that Dr. Seuss can’t be “canceled” because he’s already dead, adding that the “vast majority” of his books are still in circulation, anyway.

“No one is ‘canceling’ Dr. Seuss, a phrasing by now so detached from reality that it doesn’t even make any sense,” wrote the Post correspondent. “The author, himself, is dead for one thing, which is about as canceled as a person can get. The vast, vast majority of his books, the ones without racist images or references, will still be sold.”

“If Dr. Seuss’s profile wanes a bit as a result of the attention being paid to his drawings — the only form of ‘canceling’ at play here — to whom is harm being done?” he asked.

Cardi B's WAP is named one of the top 10 rap songs of 2020 and the nutjobs want to ban Dr. Suess. This has to be an alternate universe we are living in.

Not that I agree with cancelling Dr. Suess, but I must have missed where WAP was accepted as part of a children's listening curriculum?
