Helping my sister interview sitters this afternoon. We've weeded through and have two we both like. But now comes money. There are two kids..one a school age child who is home now but will otherwise be just put on/off the bus. Other one is an infant - 1 yr old. Whoever they pick will have to come to their house 5 days a week from 6:30am until 4pm. Now my sister wants to offer 150 a week. Bear in mind the two ladies interested are adults not teenagers. Is this an appropriate rate of pay or an insult?

My Daughter was a Licensed Day Care Provider, and the kids were brought to her. I can't honestly remember how much she charged, but $150.00 is kind of a slap in the face. Considering the Provider will have to buy gas for her car, and be away from her home for 10+ hours a day. The Child is an infant, and requires constant monitoring.

Im not sure what the going rate is - but why would anyone work for 40 hours or more a week for $150? Thats $3.75 an hour. Also, if this is legit- your provider will be paying taxes out of her pay. Even $50 a day is still an insult, but a better starting point.

Maybe call a day care center or 2 that handles 1 year olds and ask what a week of care at the center is, then decide if in home care is worth what they ask or more. (Id say more, but again- have no idea of going rate these days)
