Quran 14:In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
1. Alif, Lam, Ra. A Scripture that We revealed to you, that you may bring humanity from darkness to light—with the permission of their Lord—to the path of the Almighty, the Praiseworthy.
2. God—to whom belongs what is in the heavens and the earth. And woe to the disbelievers from a severe torment.
3. Those who prefer the present life to the Hereafter, and repel from the path of God, and seek to make it crooked—these are far astray.
4. We never sent any messenger except in the language of his people, to make things clear for them. God leads astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
5. We sent Moses with Our signs: “Bring your people out of darkness into light, and remind them of the Days of God.” In that are signs for every patient and thankful person.”
6. Moses said to his people, “Remember God’s blessings upon you, as He delivered you from the people of Pharaoh, who inflicted on you terrible suffering, slaughtering your sons while sparing your daughters. In that was a serious trial from your Lord.”
This is from the commentary.
In 7:158 we have: “Say: O mankind, surely I am the Messenger of Allåh to you all, of Him, Whose is the kingdom of the heavens and the earth”. A similar statement is made in 34:28: “And We have not sent thee but as a bearer of good news and as a warner to all mankind”. In the verse under discussion nothing is said about the extent of the mission of the Holy Prophet. All that is said here is that every prophet is sent with the language of his people, not that his people, or the nation to which he belongs, are the only people to whom he is required to deliver the message. And the reason for sending a prophet with the language of a people is stated to be that he may explain to his people, because it is his people, who are the first recipients of his message.
Ayyåm-Allåh is explained as meaning the favours of Allåh . The use of the word in a similar sense is well known in Arabic literature, in which Ayyåm al-‘Arab, or the days of the Arabs, is used for the conflicts of the Arabs. Hence, as a conflict is a source of blessings for the conqueror and a source of distress for the vanquished, the days of Allåh signify His merciful dealings with the righteous and His punishment of the wicked.
Well this makes sense. I mean why send someone who is fluent in English and French to a country that only speaks German?! God sends people who speak our language... whatever it is. Two stories come to mind this morning.... Babel and a drunk.
In Genesis 11, in the Bible, you will find the story of the Tower of Babel. The Tower was going to be a way to reach Heaven. Everyone spoke the same language.... everyone decided to build a tower to the heavens. Just like we send rocket ships to the moon and mars.... they wanted to check them out.... so they were going to just build a way to get to Heaven.
God could not let them do that. First of all, it isn't feasible. They wouldn't make it.... and can you imagine how ridiculous earth would look with a dangling building hanging off of it. I mean ah ha ha.... a building to the moon is insane. To stop the ignorance.... God confused their language. Some spoke Hebrew, some Arab, some German, just a few among many many languages they spoke..... they were just the beginning of new nations caused by a change in communications.
So now.... in the Quran.... it says that God will send someone who speaks our own language to warn us. It wouldn't do me any good to hear a warning in French or German.... I wouldn't know to duck!
Then there are the drunks. In my mind describing how this will affect a drunk is easier still to understand an appreciate. After all we all know drunks or drug addicts and there are times we wish the real drunks or drug addicts will get wise and stop. But when we tell them that to their face.... they don't understand us. We don't know what it's like to live in their lives with their needs and sorrows to drink and drug over. A priest or a preacher will only be poopooed. They are too "holier than though"..... but the Friends of Bill W..... when they talk.... drunks actually sit up and listen.... and drug addicts will fight through the need. For those of you who are unaware, thankfully, the Friends of Bill W is actually AA.
So... when God needs someone to say something to me.... He's not going to bother if I won't understand. God knows me. He counted the hairs He used to adorn my bald head. He read my future while He was deciding that I should be adorned with reddish hair and polka dots [freckles]. He knew what I would do and where I would go and how I would speak. He sent someone who would speak my language. He'll do that for everyone.... if they will listen.
So... if God wants Abraham to hear something.... it'll be in a language Abraham will understand.
Isn't it wonderful.... when I'm online... I can touch a button and any language is translated.
Isn't it wonderful..... life can be learned.... in our own language.
