Quran 14:7. And when your Lord proclaimed: “If you give thanks, I will grant you increase; but if you are ungrateful, My punishment is severe.”
8. And Moses said, “Even if you are ungrateful, together with everyone on earth—God is in no need, Worthy of Praise.”
9. Has not the story reached you, of those before you, the people of Noah, and Aad, and Thamood—and those after them? None knows them except God. Their messengers came to them with the clear proofs, but they tried to silence them, and said, “We reject what you are sent with, and we are in serious doubt regarding what you are calling us to.”
10. Their messengers said, “Is there any doubt about God, Maker of the heavens and the earth? He calls you to forgive you your sins, and to defer you until a stated term.” They said, “You are only humans like us; you want to turn us away from what our ancestors worshiped; so bring us a clear proof.”
11. Their messengers said to them, “We are only humans like you, but God favors whomever He wills from among His servants. We cannot possibly show you any proof, except by leave of God. In God let the faithful put their trust.”
12. “And why should we not trust in God, when He has guided us in our ways? We will persevere in the face of your persecution. And upon God the reliant should rely.”
13. Those who disbelieved said to their messengers, “We will expel you from our land, unless you return to our religion.” And their Lord inspired them: “We will destroy the wrongdoers.”
14. “And We will settle you in the land after them. That is for him who fears My Majesty, and fears My threats.”
15. And they prayed for victory, and every stubborn tyrant came to disappointment.
16. Beyond him lies Hell, and he will be given to drink putrid water.
17. He will guzzle it, but he will not swallow it. Death will come at him from every direction, but he will not die. And beyond this is relentless suffering.
18. The likeness of those who disbelieve in their Lord: their works are like ashes, in a fierce wind, on a stormy day. They have no control over anything they have earned. That is the utmost misguidance.
19. Do you not see that God created the heavens and the earth with truth? If He wills, He can do away with you, and bring a new creation.
20. And that is not difficult for God.
21. They will emerge before God, altogether. The weak will say to those who were proud, “We were your followers, can you protect us at all against God’s punishment?” They will say, “Had God guided us, we would have guided you. It is the same for us; whether we mourn, or are patient; there is no asylum for us.”
Here's the commentary.
The Qur’ån does not claim to give a history of all the prophets. The statement made here is much wider. It is claimed that no other book mentions them all; they are known only to Allåh. In fact, the Bible does not contain more than a mangled account of some of the prophets of a single nation.
When a man does not return an answer, being unable to do so, and withholds, he thrusts his hand into his mouth. Or, as the majority of the commentators agree, the meaning may be, they bit their hands by reason of rage. Or the meaning may simply be that the disbelievers put their hands into the mouths of the messengers to silence them.
The general statements made with regard to the messengers and the treatment of their people in this and the following section, while essentially true with regard to messengers generally, are particularly made in reference to the mission of the Prophet Muƒammad, the determined opposition and enmity of his people, their turning him out of the city, and their final discomfiture.
The prophecy of the final triumph of the Holy Prophet and of the utter discomfiture and overthrow of the power of his opponents is of very frequent occurrence in the Holy Qur’ån; here, too, it is expressed in the clearest words. The opponents are told that they may expel the Prophet, but there was not the least doubt that he would ultimately come back as a conqueror, and be made the ruler in the land after their power was crushed. This verse contains, in fact, a very clear prophecy of the flight of the Holy Prophet from Makkah and of his re-entry into that city as a conqueror and ruler.
"adßd is translated variously as pus, filthy water, hot or boiling water.
Death or maut here means, not cessation of life, but grief or distress, sufficient to cause death. He experiences, as it were, the pangs of death, but death, which would end all distress, does not come to him.
This reminds me of the guy in Hades who was so thirsty he begged for spit to wet his tongue with! This reminds me of when the dual survivors on that show go on and on about how they need fire and water. I willing admit though.... It grosses me out. Begging for spit.... wishing for puss to drink..... oh man... now I'm thirsty for a good bottle of Aquafina. We have been warned. Boy I'll be glad when I get out of the "you were warned" chapters. Yes we have been warned. The prophets all told us there was a deal struck with God and if we don't hold up our end of the deal.... things will go horribly wrong.
Think of the boss.... Oh I know a lot of you are business owners.... let's call your boss the vendor or the banker who has financed you rise to success. If they pulled your credit and called in your principal..... if you ran up in your bosses face and called him a liar..... what would happen? You'd have to confess to someone that you are now in a world of hurt.
Yet we keep doing that to God. There is an volcanic, earthquake ridden, lava flow going on off the coast of Spain. If it goes.... the whole east coast of America will be affected by the tsunami caused by the jolt. What do the stupid humans do? They shake their fist and blame God..... a few will pray that God is benevolent and holds off the earthquake that would fuel the tsunami.... but only a few will pray.... and the rest will demand that God perform to their idea of what things should be.
We all know this might happen.... is anyone doing anything to prepare? Nope.... the majority will figure they told God how to behave and they expect Him to save them.... pounding their fists on their pulpit to pound home the message. They will blame the other political party for not being ready. They will blame Spain for not putting a cork in that mountain. They will blame God for not listening to their demands. Ignorant Humans...... and some will ignore the whole mess.... "Oh well... it is what it is" they will say. But a few will indeed pray.
If you pray..... you will see Heaven.
If you pound your fist and demand in unison with the other dimwitted ignorant humans who are pretending to be watching out for us..... well you're just being led to Hellfire.
