Quran 16:111. On the Day when every soul will come pleading for itself, and every soul will be paid in full for what it has done, and they will not be wronged.
112. And God cites the example of a town that was secure and peaceful, with its livelihood coming to it abundantly from every direction. But then it turned unappreciative of God’s blessings, so God made it taste the robe of hunger and fear, because of what they used to craft.
113. A messenger from among them had come to them, but they denounced him, so the punishment seized them in the midst of their wrongdoing.
114. Eat of the lawful and good things God has provided for you, and be thankful for God’s blessings, if it is Him that you serve.
115. He has forbidden you carrion, and blood, and the flesh of swine, and anything consecrated to other than God. But if anyone is compelled by necessity, without being deliberate or malicious, then God is Forgiving and Merciful.
116. And do not say of falsehood asserted by your tongues, “This is lawful, and this is unlawful,” in order to invent lies and attribute them to God. Those who invent lies and attribute them to God will not succeed.
117. A brief enjoyment—then they will have a painful punishment.
118. For those who are Jews, We have prohibited what We related to you before. We did not wrong them, but they used to wrong their own selves.
119. But towards those who do wrongs in ignorance, and then repent afterwards and reform, your Lord thereafter is Forgiving and Merciful.
This is the commentary.
The parable is set forth to depict the state of Makkah as it was before the time of the Holy Prophet and, prophetically, the fate to which it was to be reduced after he was rejected, after it disbelieved in Allåh’s favours. Its first condition was one of great prosperity and affluence, being the centre to which all tribes came for pilgrimage and trade, a picture of which is drawn in one of the earlier chapters of the Holy Qur’ån: “So let them serve the Lord of this House, Who feeds them against hunger, and gives them security against fear”. When the Prophet and his followers were persecuted and tortured, the Prophet prayed thus: “O Allåh, overtake them with seven (years of famine) like Joseph’s seven (years of famine). So a famine overtook them, which destroyed everything, till they ate skins and dead animals and one of them looked to heaven and he saw smoke on account of hunger”. This was the libås al-j∂‘ or the pall of hunger, spoken of here. But, even then, they did not stop persecution and tried to exterminate Islåm by the sword. The result was that all their attacks on Madßnah failed, and ultimately Makkah itself lay powerless when attacked by the Prophet. This was the libås al-khauf, or pall of fear, being so called because no blood was shed. The word libås used in connection with hunger and fear indicates the utmost degree of hunger and fear, which, as it were, covered them all over.
This makes the prophecy indicated in the previous parable clear. The chastisement spoken of here is the chastisement of hunger and fear spoken of in the previous verse.
According to the commentary.... this section is about the "fate of the opponents".Back when I was a kid..... I was never told "children all over the world are starving.... so you have to clean your plate". My mom had a weight problem... any food left on her plate was a victory. Later I learned what that battle was all about.
That's not what's going on here. This is parable.... they are being starved out of existence. They are starving to death.
So why didn't they call someone? Why didn't they go to the UN? Why didn't they go to ..... wait..... we're talking the year 600 AD or 650 AD. There was no UN. There was no "trick or treat for UNISEF". There was no major highway, or big trucks with big red crosses or white crosses on them, that could be called in. There weren't any telephones, social media, or even the nightly newspaper. None of that existed. They had to travel for days and days to get to the next town.... and then they had to deal with the town bullies who heard they buried their female babies [a lie] and refused to help after the grueling trip. There was no one to call.
Either God made the crops grow.... or they starved.
Joseph, coat of many colors Joseph from the Bible, warned pharaoh starvation was on the way. A seven year famine would hit the earth. The pharaoh stored up what food he could..... and when the starvation began..... people traded the deeds to their land for food. Joseph made the pharaoh a rich man.
So those who do not Believe..... are looking at failing crops and dying livestock.... with no one to turn to and no where to run to.
Yep that about sums it up.
That's the fate of the opponents of God.
