Quran 16:22. Your God is one God. As for those who do not believe in the Hereafter, their hearts are in denial, and they are arrogant.
23. Without a doubt, God knows what they conceal and what they reveal. He does not like the arrogant.
24. And when it is said to them, “What has your Lord sent down?” They say, “Legends of the ancients.”
25. So let them carry their loads complete on the Day of Resurrection, and some of the loads of those they misguided without knowledge. Evil is what they carry.
26. Those before them also schemed, but God took their structures from the foundations, and the roof caved in on them. The punishment came at them from where they did not perceive.
27. Then, on the Day of Resurrection, He will disgrace them, and say, “Where are My associates for whose sake you used to dispute?” Those who were given knowledge will say, “Today shame and misery are upon the disbelievers.”
28. Those wronging their souls while the angels are taking them away—they will propose peace: “We did no wrong.” Yes you did. God is aware of what you used to do.”
29. Enter the gates of Hell, to dwell therein forever. Miserable is the residence of the arrogant.
30. And it will be said to those who maintained piety, “What has your Lord revealed?” They will say, “Goodness.” To those who do good in this world is goodness, and the Home of the Hereafter is even better. How wonderful is the residence of the pious.
31. The Gardens of Perpetuity, which they will enter, beneath which rivers flow, where they will have whatever they desire. Thus God rewards the pious.
32. Those who are in a wholesome state when the angels take them—will say, “Peace be upon you; enter Paradise, for what you used to do.”
33. Are they but waiting for the angels to come to them, or for the command of your Lord to arrive? Those before them did likewise. God did not wrong them, but they used to wrong their own souls.
34. So the evils of their deeds assailed them, and what they used to ridicule engulfed them.
This is the commentary for these verses.
The meaning is that the opponents will be given time to complete their plans, and then these plans and all that they spent on them will be brought to naught, and prove a cause of their own ruin. Compare 8:36 “Surely those who disbelieve spend their wealth to hinder people from the way of Allåh. So they will go on spending it, then it will be to them a regret, then they will be overcome”.
Mark that the punishment of the disbelievers on the Resurrection day is described twice in this verse as disgrace. This shows that disgrace is a sort of hell-fire, which they had in this very life, too.
What is meant by the coming of the angels or the coming of the Lord is made clear by the next verse; it is the punishment for their evil deeds and ultimately their complete overthrow that is meant. The coming of the angels stands for the smaller afflictions, such as overtook them in the form of famine and war, while the coming to pass of the command of the Lord indicates the complete overthrow of their power.
The past tense is used to express the highest degree of certainty relating to the future.
Humans like us can't read the future. God created the future so He knows what happens, but we are not privy to that. He is kind, though, so He sent Prophets and even His own Son to warn us about the consequences of getting off the path.If I could go back and change some stuff in the past.... there is plenty of change I would make. I would change things I did back in the late 70's. I don't think it would affect any of the people I know now.... except to make their lives a little less stressful. I'm afraid, though, if I were to go back and change something... it would change who I know now. It would change lives and that would distort life as I know it now. If I changed one decision I made back then..... how would it affect what will happen today?
If Lot's wife had known that Sodom was going to be destroyed that night..... do you think she would have been so slow?
If Lot's wife had known that she was about to be turned into a pillar of salt.... do you think she would have been so slow?
We think our poop doesn't stink. God created our poop and gave it an aroma so we would know to wipe our butts.
Our poop stinks.
