Quran 18:75. He said, “Did I not tell you that you will not be able to endure with me?”
76. He said, “If I ask you about anything after this, then do not keep company with me. You have received excuses from me.”
77. So they set out. Until, when they reached the people of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused to offer them hospitality. There they found a wall about to collapse, and he repaired it. He said, “If you wanted, you could have obtained a payment for it.”
78. He said, “This is the parting between you and me. I will tell you the interpretation of what you were unable to endure.
79. As for the boat, it belonged to paupers working at sea. I wanted to damage it because there was a king coming after them seizing every boat by force.
80. As for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared he would overwhelm them with oppression and disbelief.
81. So we wanted their Lord to replace him with someone better in purity, and closer to mercy.
82. And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphaned boys in the city. Beneath it was a treasure that belonged to them. Their father was a righteous man. Your Lord wanted them to reach their maturity, and then extract their treasure—as a mercy from your Lord. I did not do it of my own accord. This is the interpretation of what you were unable to endure.”
Here's the commentary.
The interpretation of the three incidents shows a manifestation of Divine wisdom in what takes place in the everyday life of man. Divine laws, as manifested in nature, are really working towards ultimate good, though sometimes they may appear to the outward eye to be working to the detriment of somebody. The beneficent hand of Allåh that works in nature is always directing humanity to the goal of great good, though that goal must necessarily be reached with apparent loss. Sometimes the loss is only apparent, as in the case of making a hole in the boat; there was no real loss, but the apparent loss served a great purpose and brought much benefit to the owner. The second instance is that in which there is real loss to a person, but it is for the good of humanity at large, for life must be sacrificed for the ultimate good of humanity. The third instance shows that, for the good of humanity, deeds must be done which bring no immediate reward, and that good done by one generation is not devoid of benefit to the next. Moses himself had, in fact, to undergo the experience of his teacher, and the incidents seem no more than prophetic allegories of Moses’ own life-work. Just as the scuttling of a boat causes apprehension to the safety of its occupants, Moses had to lead his people to a place where they thought they had only been brought to be drowned; but their safe passage through the sea showed that it was for their good. Then he had to order his men to fight against an iniquitous people and to put them to death, but he was not shedding human blood to no purpose, for it was really a step towards the evolution of a better race. And finally, his devoting his own life to the Israelites, descendants of a righteous man, corresponded to his teacher’s building the wall for the orphans without claiming recompense. Read in this light, the narration is clearly an Ascension of Moses, foreshadowing the great events which were to befall him.
That the youth himself deserved death is abundantly clear. His inordinacy had now reached an extreme — the circumstances seem to have been known to Kha˙ir, though not to Moses — when it was feared that his innocent parents would be involved in the trouble which must befall him as a result of his wrongdoing. Note that the word used to indicate the youth’s wrongdoing is ∆ughyån, which means exceeding all limits in wrongdoing.
I really have no clue what this is talking about. I'm an old woman with a computer but no clue. I have even received a notice that somehow my google sign in will change on the 9th.... what the heck.... don't they know not all of us are techies?
The way I read this.... there are three points made in the verses.
Nature is in charge.... God runs nature.... so actually God is in charge.
Sometimes the life of one man has to be terminated for the good of everyone else.
Sometimes a child has to be separated from his family to save the parents.
Ever heard of a political protest during a lightning and thunder storm? Ever heard of a political protest during a hurricane? Humans have to hide from weather sometimes.... battles have been postponed or planned according to the weather.....and nature can use weather to the benefit of the human race. When Moses fled Egypt with more than 2,000,000 refugees..... the Egyptian army was ordered by Pharaoh to chase them down and bring them back. He had a nation to take care of and Moses was about to leave with the only trained workforce they had. The army of Pharaoh was drowned. The water that had receded so Moses and his refugees could cross on dry land.... came back on the army. Pharaoh had to order all those men to death.... to save face. How would he answer up for letting the work all over Egypt come to a halt. How would Pharaoh.... claiming to be god.... tell the people all this was his fault.
Sometimes one man has to die so others can live. The bomb we let loose on Japan.... was murder for those where the bomb went off.... but it ended a horrible World War.... saving lives. Jesus went to the cross.... saving everyone from "when you die you die". Now people have a choice... Hades or Heaven.... but we're all going to get the choice because He gave up His life.
Sometimes something horrible happens to a man that will ultimately save his life. These verses have a story of a man who scuttled his boat.... put a hole in it.... but if he hadn't.... the king was going to murder him and take his boat. Since he drilled a hole in his boat.... he could repair his own boat when the king was done with his foolishness.
Yesterday we had a community yard sale... I make dolls... I sew and embroider them... or I crochet them... but I make dolls.... and yesterday I took part in the community yard sale. Everyone I saw, except for one little human, was well into their fifties.... and they were looking for yard sale bargains. But there was one little baby. She looked like she was about old enough to just start walking if the man holding her would have set her down. I could not resist... I had to give her a doll. I picked up one of my babies that I crocheted a few years ago.... the prototype of the ballet dolls I crochet now.... and I caught up with them... and gave her the doll. I got a weird smile from the guy holding her.... until I took the tag off the doll and put it in the baby's arms. The I got a smile from the baby that made my day... and the weird smile left the man's face and he looked kind of relieved. Can you imagine what he was thinking... an old woman running up to them? It made my day... but my neighbors saw it. They all talked about how I gave away one of my dolls. I made them pay for theirs... but I just gave away one.... to a baby.
God is in charge. Sometimes we need to put a hole in the boat or give a doll away to feel Him.
This is about a hole in the boat.
