Quran 21:In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
1. Mankind’s reckoning has drawn near, but they turn away heedlessly.
2. No fresh reminder comes to them from their Lord, but they listen to it playfully.
3. Their hearts distracted, the wrongdoers confer secretly, “Is this anything but a mortal like you? Will you take to sorcery, with open-eyes?”
4. He said, “My Lord knows what is said in the heaven and the earth; and He is the Hearer, the Knower.”
5. And they said, “A jumble of dreams,” and, “He made it up,” and, “He is a poet,” “let him bring us a sign, like those sent to the ancients.”
6. None of the towns We destroyed before them had believed. Will they, then, believe?
7. We did not send before you except men, whom We inspired. Ask the people of knowledge, if you do not know.
8. We did not make them mere bodies that ate no food, nor were they immortal.
9. Then We fulfilled Our promise to them, and We saved them together with whomever We willed, and We destroyed the extravagant.
10. We have sent down to you a Book, containing your message. Do you not understand?
This is the commentary this morning.
The Quraish seem to have been quite puzzled — and hostile critics of the Qur’ån are still puzzled — what they could liken the Qur’ån to. They first call it si√r, i.e., skilful eloquence, because, notwithstanding their opposition to it, it had an attraction for them. But then there are prophecies which mere eloquence cannot produce, so they call it medleys of dreams. Then they think that there is a settled purpose therein, by reason of its asserting the Prophet’s triumph and the discomfiture of his powerful enemies, so they call it an intentional forgery; and lastly, as if to devise one word combining all these, they call him a poet. Then they demand a sign the like of which was given to the former prophets, meaning their destruction, because the Qur’ån had repeatedly called their attention to the fate of those who had rejected the truth before them.
They are told in reply that persistence in wickedness and disbelief has always been punished with destruction.
Thus every prophet had a mortal body needing food for its support, and every one of them tasted of death. Therefore Jesus also must have had a body which stood in need of food and must have tasted of death. The idea that he is alive is clearly opposed to this verse.
Whenever the opponents demand that the threatened punishment should come, the reply always is that the Qur’ån is a blessing and a mercy for them. The same truth is expressed here. They demand a sign like that of former prophets, but they are told that the Qur’ån has been revealed to make them a great and eminent nation in the world. Dhikr means eminence, fame, renown, honour as well as reminder.
I don't know how they do it.... and keep is straight..... but some pull God out of the box they put Him in.... the box that makes Him answer up to humans.... and then when they desire to warn.... they say that God will bring down horrible things. If there's an earthquake... God. If there's a hurricane.... God. If there's peace for one night.... human. The rich man owns all the good.... and puts all the bad on God. Some even demand the course for God and tell others that they pull the strings of God. Some might even use a magic marker and a map to tell God where a hurricane is supposed to go..... in order to make the storm go where it will do the least damage to the rich man's properties.
When I was a kid.... when someone said something bad about God or Jesus or Angels..... the others around that person would step away from that person. "God's going to get you!", we would say. The Bible says the 10 Commandments even state.... straight out.... "Don't use God's Name in vain."
In these verses.... it's as if the humans think they run the earth and everything that goes on in, on, or around the earth. When someone brings up the fact that Hades is waiting for those who don't Believe.... they call them a liar. Saying it's all a big pack of dreams they made up.
There is a guy who shows up in my email. Some years ago I must have read an article.... or signed up to see what this crazy man is doing. Anyway.... this man, Michael Lael claims that God talks to him. He claims to know the meaning of the Book of Revelation. He says we are in the "End Time". At first the pandemic wasn't important..... but now it's a sign. At first the fires on the West Coast were not important.... but now it's a sign. At first the hurricanes were not important.... now it's a sign. Either God is sending a lot of powerful signs to draw our attention to the "End Time" or this man is insanely afraid of every natural happening. He must see a lot of sin in the world. Now that's a sign.... but it was a sign back when the Bible and the Quran were compiled. He's a dreamer?!?
When I was a kid.... we went to church every Sunday and Wednesday. When I was a kid.... we sat in Mr. Whipple's apple trees and talked about miracles and angels. When I was a kid.... each day in school we would hear a verse of scripture, followed by the Lord's prayer, and then we would stand and recite the pledge allegiance to the flag. When I was a kid.... the Christmas Season was a reason to do an extra good for those around us. We didn't do it to get an extra present. We did it because we love God. Now... kids are shooting each other in school with guns we refuse to put down.
Sooner or later... God is going to say... "that's it!"
If we are warned enough by enough humans who warn of "End Time".... Sooner or later it will happen.
Maybe we should be listening to those "made up dreams".
Sooner or later it will happen. God is going to say.... "that's it!"
It's common sense.
