Quran 22:39. Permission is given to those who are fought against, and God is Able to give them victory.
40. Those who were unjustly evicted from their homes, merely for saying, “Our Lord is God.” Were it not that God repels people by means of others: monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques—where the name of God is mentioned much—would have been demolished. God supports whoever supports Him. God is Strong and Mighty.
41. Those who, when We empower them in the land, observe the prayer, and give regular charity, and command what is right, and forbid what is wrong. To God belongs the outcome of events.
42. If they deny you—before them the people of Noah, and Aad, and Thamood also denied.
43. And the people of Abraham, and the people of Lot.
44. And the inhabitants of Median. And Moses was denied. Then I reprieved those who disbelieved, but then I seized them. So how was My rejection?
45. How many a town have We destroyed while it was doing wrong? They lie in ruins; with stilled wells, and lofty mansions.
46. Have they not journeyed in the land, and had minds to reason with, or ears to listen with? It is not the eyes that go blind, but it is the hearts, within the chests, that go blind.
47. And they ask you to hasten the punishment. But God never breaks His promise. A day with your Lord is like a thousand years of your count.
48. How many a town have I reprieved, although it was unjust? Then I seized it. To Me is the destination.
Here's the commentary.
According to authentic reports, this is the earliest permission given to the Muslims to fight. There is nothing to show that this verse was not revealed at Makkah. On the other hand, it was owing to this revelation that in the well-known oath of allegiance taken at ‘Aqabah, the Holy Prophet required a promise from the Madßnah deputation that they would defend him against his enemies even as they would defend their own children. The words in which the permission is granted show clearly that war was first made on the Muslims by their opponents; and secondly, that the Muslims had already suffered great oppression at the hands of their persecutors. The words of the next verse, those who are driven from their homes, may refer to the emigration to Abyssinia, or to the exodus to Madßnah, which commenced soon after the ‘Aqabah allegiance was sworn.
The religious freedom which was established by Islåm thirteen hundred years ago has not yet been surpassed by the most civilized and tolerant of nations. It deserves to be noted that the lives of Muslims are to be sacrificed not only to stop their own persecution by their opponents and to save their own mosques, but to save churches, synagogues and cloisters as well — in fact, to establish perfect religious freedom. The mosques, though they are the places where the name of Allåh is remembered most of all, come in for their share of protection even after the churches and the synagogues. Early Muslims closely followed these directions, and every commander of an army had express orders to respect all houses of worship, and even the cloisters of monks, along with their inmates.
It should be noted that the Holy Qur’ån very often speaks of the blind, the deaf and the dead, meaning thereby the spiritually blind, deaf and dead, as it has plainly stated here.
Those spoken of here are undoubtedly the opponents of Truth who were to come later, and who have been allowed to oppose the advance of Islåm for a thousand years.
There is something.... some verse.... or chant.... or part of a song maybe.... but it goes "fight for the right to P A R T Y". You know which phrase I mean? That's what got in my head this morning while I was reading these verses.I keep saying... we all serve One God. Here I read, according to the commentary....Muslims are to protect the churches, synagogues, and cloisters as well. All places God loves. See.... we all serve One God.
Back when I was reading 1 Corinthians in the Bible.... I read about speaking in tongues. Now I have been told that speaking in tongues is just jibber jabber that allows God to speak to a human.... like an interpreter. One of my friends told me the jibber jabber was God talking and causing humans to interpret for Him. Like if I were to say "ooga booga dilly whap" the person God speaks to hears "Love comes from God". The rest of the earth hears "ooga booga dilly whap" but those chosen to hear the message..... hear it crystal clear.... "Love comes from God".
It seems to me.... if God would send a finger to write on the wall.... as He did in Daniel 5...... or cause people to understand jibber jabber.... then the missionary must have inside information. If I decided to go to Istanbul to teach about the Bible.... I would have to learn the language right? According to this.... and Daniel 5... and 1 Corinthians 14.... God understands the jibber jabber well enough to make His story available no matter what language we talk.
When I was a teen.... the Beatles were the big deal. Their hair and their clothes were unique.... and we just had to get a "Beatle cut" and wear a nehru jacket like John. I remember the "older generation" complained that they couldn't understand the lyrics. We, teens, understood every word. Old folks just didn't get it.... and now... I'm old... and I don't understand many of the new songs that are coming out. I wonder... is it the same thing?
Some time ago... I remember fearing the "Nation of Islam" that was "invading" the cities. I heard that the black community was leaving the church and joining a cult called "Islam". I remember hearing that "Islam" only meant us harm. Who started that story? Was it someone who was afraid God only hears Christian prayers?
Muslims are called to worship the same God I worship. I am a Christian.... I mean you no harm. My neighbor is Jewish.... she means you no harm. My other neighbor is Muslim... she means you no harm.
I'm not supposed to thump my Bible on everyone's head. I'm supposed to show everyone love... and that will cause them to ask about my Bible.
Muslims are not supposed to thump the Quran on everyone's head. They're supposed to show everyone love.... and that will cause them to ask about the Quran.
But.... never forget.... Christians, Jews, and Muslims... all Believe in the same God.... but they still have a right to defend themselves.
Muslims are charged to defend themselves. That's no jibber jabber. Stop poking them... right?
