Quran 23:103. But those whose scales are light—those are they who have lost their souls; in Hell they will dwell forever.
104. The Fire lashes their faces, and therein they grimace.
105. “Were not My revelations recited to you, and you kept on rejecting them?”
106. They will say, “Our Lord, our wretchedness prevailed over us, and we were a people astray.
107. Our Lord! Bring us out of this. If we ever returned, we would truly be evil.”
108. He will say, “Be despised therein, and do not speak to Me.
109. There was a group of My servants who would say, `Our Lord, we have believed, so forgive us, and have mercy on us; You are the Best of the merciful.'
110. But you made them a target of ridicule, until they made you forget My remembrance; and you used to laugh at them.
111. Today, I have rewarded them for their endurance. They are the ones who are the triumphant.”
112. He will say, “How many years did you remain on earth?”
113. They will say, “We remained a day, or part of a day; but ask those who keep count.”
114. He will say, “You remained only for a little while, if you only knew.
115. Did you think that We created you in vain, and that to Us you will not be returned?”
116. So Exalted is God, the Ruler, the Real. There is no god except He, the Lord of the Noble Throne.
117. Whoever invokes another god besides God—he has no proof thereof—his reckoning rests with his Lord. The disbelievers will not succeed.
118. And say, “My Lord, forgive and have mercy, for You are the Best of the merciful.”

And here's the commentary.

Really it was not the believers who caused them to forget the remembrance of their Lord but, on account of their mocking the believers, the disbelievers forgot their Lord; hence the believers are here spoken of as though they caused the disbelievers to forget their Lord.
This verse establishes the doctrine of the responsibility of human actions. Man is not created in vain, but he will be returned to his Lord to meet the consequences of what he does in this life.
Hey... maybe God makes us start out on earth so we will appreciate Heaven more.

OOORRRRR.... maybe we start out in Heaven.... and then we clamor to be on earth to "prove ourselves" and then we return to Heaven and report. Maybe that's why people like my mom believe in reincarnation. Maybe that stubborn streak she was born with on earth was the "get it right" assigned to her.

Check out verse 103.... if your scales are light..... then your soul is missing. All my life I've been trying to lose weight and now I find that the weight of my soul is the important part of Salvation. Oh I am going to use that verse in conversation over the Holiday Season. I'll probably use it again while going through the rest of this book.

Jesus said there would be some who show up at Judgement, expecting to be led right to the front of the line and right through the pearly gates without hesitation. That's how it's always been for them. They are the elite. They run the church. They run the country. They run the economy. They are always first in line. Even God, they say, would not have them stand in line with us common folk. Jesus said those people will be in for the shock of their existence.... when the Gatekeeper, Jesus, says "I don't know you."

There will be some who show up at Judgement, who will be totally caught off guard. They heard about Judgement from those bible thumping fork tongued simpletons who thought their poop didn't stink because they were on the board of the local church as well as the city council. They didn't believe it.... so they lived their life as honest good men and women.... being kind but never buying the whole "He is Risen" stuff. They will be amazed it is all true.... in spite of those who took up the pews but never believed [or acted like they believed] and Jesus will be there to say.... "It's not their fault, Dad. They got the wrong information.... ask them now."

There will be some.... Jay Sekulow comes to mind.... who will try to argue their way into Heaven at Judgement. They will claim that God doesn't know what it's like to be human with the salvation of the world on their human shoulders. Jesus will be there to tell them the truth.... they only "claimed" to be responsible for the salvation of the world. Jesus is the key to Salvation.... not them. Jesus was tempted and didn't succumb. They got a big head and worshipped their own big head rather than the One True Living God. These verses are for them.

I wonder how much I will weigh on God's Scales.
