Quran 23:21. O you who believe! Do not follow Satan’s footsteps. Whoever follows Satan’s footsteps—he advocates obscenity and immorality. Were it not for God’s grace towards you, and His mercy, not one of you would have been pure, ever. But God purifies whomever He wills. God is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.
22. Those of you who have affluence and means should not refuse to give to the relatives, and the needy, and the emigrants for the sake of God. And let them pardon, and let them overlook. Do you not love for God to pardon you? God is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
23. Those who slander honorable, innocent, believing women are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter. They will have a terrible punishment.
24. On the Day when their tongues, and their hands, and their feet will testify against them regarding what they used to do.
25. On that Day, God will pay them their account in full, and they will know that God is the Evident Reality.
26. Bad women are for bad men, and bad men are for bad women, and good women are for good men, and good men are for good women. Those are acquitted of what they say. There is forgiveness for them, and a generous provision.
Here's the commentary.This passage shows that the companions of the Holy Prophet were purified from sins by Allåh’s grace.
It is agreed on the basis of most trustworthy reports that this verse was revealed in connection with the action of Ab∂ Bakr, who had sworn not to allow maintenance to one of his relatives named Mis∆a√, who had taken part in spreading the false reports against ‘Å’ishah. After inflicting the legal punishment on the culprits the Prophet was required to bear them no ill-will, and to hide no rancour in his breast even towards the slanderers of his wife. Revelation even required his companions to be kind and forgiving to them. Ab∂ Bakr is spoken of here as one possessing grace and abundance, the former of these words referring to his moral and spiritual superiority and the latter to abundance in wealth.
This refers to those who continue to spread evil reports concerning chaste women, the gossip-mongers in every society.
The evidence of the members of the body is sometimes witnessed in this very life against the doers of evil, in the consequences of the evil done. On the day of Resurrection the consequences of the evil deeds will assume a palpable form, as is also indicated in the paying back in full of the just rewards in the next verse, and thus bear witness to the evil done. This highly developed idea of the Resurrection did not exist before the Holy Qur’ån.
The meaning of this whole passage is made clear by the concluding words, i.e., nothing impure can be attributed to the pure ones, and they are free from what the impure ones say.
This is about how the Prophet dealt with the biggest gossip monger. It's about the Prophet had to deal with the biggest gossip monger who almost got the Prophet's wife whipped in the common square for adultery. It's about forgiving someone once the truth is out.
Once the Prophet declared the sentence for the biggest gossip in town.... the subject is done. The Prophet is supposed to forget it ever happened and treat the biggest gossip as a friend or relative.
It's about turning the other cheek. If someone has done harm..... talk to them about it.... and then once they repent.... "forget about it".
Nothin I write this morning makes any sense. Maybe the peanut butter cookie dough in the frig is calling me to make those cookies.... or the dust on my screen is reminding me I have housework to do.... My daughter is coming over for Christmas day and my house looks like a blind woman has been ignoring the dust. I just can't get my head around this message any better.
If someone has done you wrong.... it's your job to forgive them.
