Quran 25:35. We gave Moses the Scripture, and appointed his brother Aaron as his assistant.
36. We said, “Go to the people who rejected Our signs,” and We destroyed them completely.
37. And the people of Noah: when they rejected the messengers, We drowned them, and made them a lesson for mankind. We have prepared for the wrongdoers a painful retribution.
38. And Aad, and Thamood, and the inhabitants of Arras, and many generations in between.
39. To each We presented the parables; and each We devastated utterly.
40. And they came upon the city that was drenched by the terrible rain. Did they not see it? But they do not expect resurrection.
41. And when they see you, they take you for nothing but mockery: “Is this the one God sent as a messenger?”
42. “He nearly led us away from our gods, had we not patiently adhered to them.” But they will know, when they witness the torment, who is further away from the way.
43. Have you seen him who chose his desire as his god? Would you be an agent for him?
44. Or do you assume that most of them hear or understand? They are just like cattle, but even more errant in their way.

And here's today's commentary from those who know what they are talking about.

According to Zj, Rass was a country in which a part of the tribe of Tham∂d resided; others say that Rass is the name of a town in Yamåmah. Rass also means a well, and it is said that they were a people who threw their prophet into a well.
The meaning is that every one of these generations was warned of its doom by citing examples of those who had previously perished, but, not heeding the warning, was destroyed.
This town is Sodom, which was situated on the way to Syria.
This verse shows how broad is the idea of shirk or polytheism according to the Holy Qur’ån. It is not simply worship of idols that is condemned, but blindly following one’s desires is equally condemned. Many men who consider themselves the servants of the One God really bow in submission before the greatest of their idols, i.e., their desire. The monotheistic doctrine has here been brought to a perfection not to be met with elsewhere

I wish I could just blindly believe everything humans try to sell. I was under the impression that Arabs didn't worship God. I was under the impression Arabs had no time for religion because they were busy chasing sand dunes on camels shooting wildly at anything that moves. I was under the impression Arabs lived by a "code" like Lawrence of Arabia. But.... apparently they are also God's children.... out of a different book.

All three religious traditions, Jewish, Christian and Muslim..... use the demise of Sodom.... to illustrate the power of God when He's angry.

All three religious traditions, Jewish, Christian and Muslim..... appreciate the same warnings from God. All three religious traditions recognize a few humans got away from Sodom before being burnt to a crisp or frozen into a salt dome. All three religious traditions agree Lot and his family were not perfect little Jewish, Christian, or Muslim followers.... they in no way "deserved" to be saved from the fire that rained on Sodom and Gomorrah. Lot was saved because he was the best of the worst and his cousin begged God to spare him.

When I was younger.... in my 20's.... while we were still battling Vietnam and the loss of so many good men to the draft.... I attended a Baptist Church outside of Kissimmee, Florida. That preacher was fighting a different battle. When he said open your Bibles to Psalm 23.... the people in his church all had different translations of the Bible. Some had King James.... it was still the big deal of translations.... but others had the New International Version [like me].... or the American Standard translation [another easy to read translation]. So when he read "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want"... they were reading "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing" or "Jehovah is my shepherd, I shall not want".

That preacher went insane.... he built a bonfire.... out of Bibles.... he snatched the Bibles right out of people's hands and if it wasn't King James.... it got tossed. I get that he wanted a clear lesson..... but that was just one episode of ignorance I have witnessed in worship.

Moses warned us to pay attention to God. Noah warned us to pay attention to God. Jesus taught us to pay attention to God, His Father. Muhammed taught us to pay attention to God. There were catastrophic natural events.... fire, famine, pandemic.... all meant to tell us to pay attention to God.

Are the rich and powerful running our churches and twisting the meaning of the verses?

Do other nations read a different translation of the warning?

Is the translation the issue?
