Quran 26: 10. Your Lord called to Moses, “Go to the tyrannical people.
11. The people of Pharaoh. Will they not fear?”
12. He said, “My Lord, I fear they will reject me.
13. And I become stressed, and my tongue is not fluent, so send Aaron too.
14. And they have a charge against me, so I fear they will kill me.”
15. He said, “No. Go, both of you, with Our proofs. We will be with you, listening.
16. Go to Pharaoh, and say, ‘We are the Messengers of the Lord of the Worlds.
17. Let the Children of Israel go with us.'“
18. He said, “Did we not raise you among us as a child, and you stayed among us for many of your years?
19. And you committed that deed you committed, and you were ungrateful.”
20. He said, “I did it then, when I was of those astray.
21. And I fled from you when I feared you; but my Lord gave me wisdom, and made me one of the messengers.
22. Is that the favor you taunt me with, although you have enslaved the Children of Israel?”
23. Pharaoh said, “And what is the Lord of the Worlds?”
24. He said, “The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and everything between them, if you are aware.”
25. He said to those around him, “Do you not hear?”
26. He said, “Your Lord and the Lord of your ancestors of old.”
27. He said, “This messenger of yours, who is sent to you, is crazy.”
28. He said, “Lord of the East and the West, and everything between them, if you understand.”
29. He said, “If you accept any god other than me, I will make you a prisoner.”
30. He said, “What if I bring you something convincing?”
31. He said, “Bring it, if you are being truthful.”
32. So he cast his staff; and it was a serpent, plain to see.
33. And he pulled his hand; and it was white, for all to see
I guess Moses showed Pharaoh.
Here's the commentary.
In 20:27 Moses prays to God: And loose the knot from my tongue. Here the same idea is expressed by the words: And my tongue is not eloquent.
The reference is to the killing of the Egyptian. It is stated here that the people of Pharaoh charged Moses with a crime, not that he was actually guilty.
The circumstances in which Moses’ act of striking an Egyptian with his fist led to the death of the Egyptian are related in 28:15. There was no intention to kill the man, nor did Moses use any weapon with which death could be caused. Rz explains ˙åll here as meaning one perplexed, being unable to know what was incumbent on him. He used his fist against the oppressor, and death was simply accidental.
The Israelites were employed only in menial work by Pharaoh and the Egyptians; it is this subjection to hardship which is here called enslavement.
The gods of the Egyptians were innumerable. There were the abstract gods, the cosmic gods, the human gods, and the animal gods. Their god-cult may be summed up briefly in the words of the En. Br. (vol. ix, p. 51): “Truly it might have been said in ancient Egypt, Of the making of gods there is no end”. Pharaoh’s claim to divinity among a people who were willing to deify anything has therefore nothing strange about it.
Pharaoh was considered a god. That would be like declaring our President to be a god. That would be like declaring a pope to be a god. That would be like declaring a cat to be a god.... oh wait... they did that.Pharaoh is the one who said.... "If you accept any god other than me, I will make you a prisoner.”
Moses was like me... unable to talk in public. I get stage fright now. I can get the words together... but as soon as I get in public.... my brain unsorts. Memorization is not my strong suit. I can memorize something... like the Gettysburg Address... or wedding vows.... but when I need to use them for real.... my brain won't work. They say Moses stuttered and it embarrassed him. In my case.... nothing comes out.... hesitation.
So... God let Moses take Aaron with him everywhere. Aaron knew what was going on right up until Moses went up on the mountain to talk to God. Aaron was with Moses when Moses went to see Pharaoh. Aaron was there when the staff turned to viper.
This is the beginning story of "Let my people go".
