Quran 27:67. Those who disbelieve say, “When we have become dust, and our ancestors, shall we be brought out?
68. We were promised that before, we and our ancestors—these are nothing but legends of the ancients.
69. Say, travel through the earth, and observe the fate of the guilty.”
70. But do not grieve over them, and do not be troubled by what they plot.
71. And they say, “When is this promise, if you are truthful?”
72. Say, “Perhaps some of what you are impatient for has drawn near.”
73. Your Lord is gracious towards humanity, but most of them are not thankful.
74. And your Lord knows what their hearts conceal, and what they reveal.
75. There is no mystery in the heaven and the earth, but it is in a Clear Book.
76. This Quran relates to the Children of Israel most of what they differ about.
77. And it is guidance and mercy for the believers.
78. Your Lord will judge between them by His wisdom. He is the Almighty, the All-Knowing.
79. So rely on God. You are upon the clear truth.
80. You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear the call if they turn their backs and flee.
81. Nor can you guide the blind out of their straying. You can make no one listen, except those who believe in Our verses; for they are Muslims.
82. And when the Word has fallen on them, We will bring out for them from the earth a creature which will say to them that the people are uncertain of Our revelations.

Here's the commentary.

This verse is a clear testimony to what is meant by the Prophet’s raising the dead; for here we are told that, if the dead go back retreating, the Prophet cannot make them hear. Evidently this verse and the opening words of the following verse speak of the reprobate who shut their eyes and close their ears to all truth.
By the creature from the earth that will speak to them are evidently meant people who are bent low upon earth. These people are the materialistic nations of the West who have lost all sense of the higher values of life. The coming forth of the dåbbat al-ar˙ is one of the signs of the approach of the Hour according to the Ïadßth. But the Hour may mean either the day of Judgment or the doom of a people, and this verse gives us an indication that the Hour in this case stands for the doom of a nation; because here it is spoken of as being a punishment for not believing in the Divine messages

I think this is saying.... you only have one life.... keep your eye on the prize.

I think this is saying.... you can only make decisions while you are alive.... so you need to decide about your salvation NOW.

Once you are dead.... and the coffin or the urn or the plot has been purchased..... there is no way for you to decide to follow God.

Once you are dead.... you can't hear the preacher, priest, rabbi, or teacher.... it's too late.

Once you are dead.... all the magnificent stuff you spent so much time working to buy.... is worthless to you.... you can't use earthly currency in Heaven or Hades.

Once you are dead.... you are no different than the dog buried in the back yard.... sure you'll probably be remembered... but you're not going to jump up and chase a stick anymore.

Once you are dead.... you are no different than the leaves that fall from the trees and rot..... the only way to avoid it.... is to secure eternal life.... to live forever.

Once you are dead.... you can't decide to live!
