Quran 28:In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful.
1. Ta, Seen, Meem.
2. These are the Verses of the Clear Book.
3. We narrate to you from the history of Moses and Pharaoh—in truth—for people who believe.
4. Pharaoh exalted himself in the land, and divided its people into factions. He persecuted a group of them, slaughtering their sons, while sparing their daughters. He was truly a corrupter.
5. But We desired to favor those who were oppressed in the land, and to make them leaders, and to make them the inheritors.
6. And to establish them in the land; and to show Pharaoh, Hamaan, and their troops, the very thing they feared.
7. We inspired the mother of Moses: “Nurse him; then, when you fear for him, cast him into the river, and do not fear, nor grieve; We will return him to you, and make him one of the messengers.”
8. Pharaoh’s household picked him up, to be an opponent and a sorrow for them. Pharaoh, Hamaan, and their troops were sinners.
9. Pharaoh’s wife said, “An eye's delight for me and for you. Do not kill him; perhaps he will be useful to us, or we may adopt him as a son.” But they did not foresee.
10. The heart of Moses’ mother became vacant. She was about to disclose him, had We not steadied her heart, that she may remain a believer.
11. She said to his sister, “Trail him.” So she watched him from afar, and they were unaware.
12. We forbade him breastfeeding at first. So she said, “Shall I tell you about a family that can raise him for you, and will look after him?”
13. Thus We returned him to his mother, that she may be comforted, and not grieve, and know that God’s promise is true. But most of them do not know.
Here's the commentary.
The two parties were the Israelites and the Egyptians, the latter being made the taskmasters of the former. This refers no doubt to the persecutions of the Muslims. The Quraish, the stronger party, wanted to crush the weaker party of the Muslims.
By making them heirs is not meant that they would be made heirs to Pharaoh’s possession, but heirs to a kingdom in the promised land of Canaan. And this refers also to the establishment of the kingdom of Islåm and the vanquishment of its persecutors.
Håmån seems to have been a minister of Pharaoh. The Håmån spoken of in Esther 3:1 is a different person. Pharaoh and his counsellors feared that the Israelites, who were aliens in the land of Egypt, might one day become powerful and supreme in the land. Hence they oppressed and persecuted them in various ways. Yet the Divine intention was to bring about what Pharaoh feared. Even such was the Divine intention with regard to the persecuted Muslims.
It was not the object of Pharaoh’s people that the child should be their enemy, but this ultimately happened. Låm (“that”) used in this sense is called låm al-‘åqibah.
Her heart became free from anxiety on account of the assurance which she had received through Divine revelation; the words that follow show that her heart had been strengthened with patience, so it cannot be said to have become devoid of patience. In fact, f årigh often, used elliptically, signifies free from care or anxiety or disquietude (LL).
The reference is clearly to the opponents of the Holy Prophet, who did not know that the promise of Allåh, as given to the faithful, would prove true.
Somehow... according to the commentary.... the story of Moses is the beginning of the story of Muhammed.... I don't know.... I've told you before... this is a first reading for me. I have been in a Baptist Church my whole life. I visited other churches.... even went to a Catholic church once... and I attended a few Mormon meetings..... all this Quran stuff is brand new.... I thought the Quran was going to be nothing but hateful lies... that's how I was raised. Ignorance is bliss... ah!
Anyway.... this is about Moses and how he became part of Pharaoh's household.
Check out verse 10.... His mother's heart went "vacant". Oh I know that feeling. A lot of older mothers know that feeling. That's the "no news is good news" vacant. When you heart aches for your child but you can't get to them for fear it will endanger them.... "no news is good news" is a band aid for the heart. I know it well.
Everyone knows I'm Pro-Life..... but there's a side of the Pro-Life movement that gets left to the vicious sometimes. What happens when the "unwanted" baby is born? Who will take care of it? Who will feed it? Who will hold it? Some mothers never give up their love for their babies... even though the baby is living with someone else. Some mothers only talked about abortion because they saw no other way out... and then when given a chance to save the baby... really expect the baby to thrive..... but it's taken from them... adoption... forever.... and some moms suffer from what I know as "empty arms syndrome".
In verse 10..... even though Moses' sister was watching over Moses..... His mom was going vacant.... her breasts were full of breastmilk but no child was there to ease her.... until arrangements were made.
Pharaoh's wife didn't know she was agreeing to let the baby's mother hold her son. Pharaoh's wife saw a baby she saved from the sword. They were slaughtering Hebrew babies back then. Hebrews loved babies.... and having so many Hebrew babies growing into Hebrew men.... capable of war... was not good for Pharaoh.... so the Hebrew babies were murdered..... to save the empire.
She just knew the mother to be a wet nurse. She didn't know the wet nurse was the baby's mother. Open adoption was not in the plans.... a wet nurse... that's all Pharaoh's wife needed. Moses' sister was there to supply the reference. Moses mother only had to hold the secret in her heart.... in exchange for being able to raise her own child... even if it was as a wet nurse.
This is the story of Moses.... and it begins with a mother losing her son.... to adoption....
