Quran 5: 109. On the Day when God will gather the messengers, then say, “What response were you given?” They will say, “We have no knowledge; it is You Who are the Knower of the unseen.”
110. When God will say, “O Jesus son of Mary, recall My favor upon you and upon your mother, how I supported you with the Holy Spirit. You spoke to the people from the crib, and in maturity. How I taught you the Scripture and wisdom, and the Torah and the Gospel. And recall that you molded from clay the shape of a bird, by My leave, and then you breathed into it, and it became a bird, by My leave. And you healed the blind and the leprous, by My leave; and you revived the dead, by My leave. And recall that I restrained the Children of Israel from you when you brought them the clear miracles. But those who disbelieved among them said, This is nothing but obvious sorcery.'“

111. “And when I inspired the disciples: Believe in Me and in My Messenger.' They said, We have believed, so bear witness that We have submitted.'“

112. “And when the disciples said, 'O Jesus son of Mary, is your Lord able to bring down for us a feast from heaven?' He said, 'Fear God, if you are believers.'“

113. They said, “We wish to eat from it, so that our hearts may be reassured, and know that you have told us the truth, and be among those who witness it.”

114. Jesus son of Mary said, “O God, our Lord, send down for us a table from heaven, to be a festival for us, for the first of us, and the last of us, and a sign from You; and provide for us; You are the Best of providers.”

115. God said, “I will send it down to you. But whoever among you disbelieves thereafter, I will punish him with a punishment the like of which I never punish any other being.”

116. And God will say, “O Jesus son of Mary, did you say to the people, Take me and my mother as gods rather than God?'“ He will say, “Glory be to You! It is not for me to say what I have no right to. Had I said it, You would have known it. You know what is in my soul, and I do not know what is in Your soul. You are the Knower of the hidden.

117. I only told them what You commanded me: that you shall worship God, my Lord and your Lord. And I was a witness over them while I was among them; but when You took me to Yourself, You became the Watcher over them—You are Witness over everything.
118. If You punish them, they are Your servants; but if You forgive them, You are the Mighty and Wise.”
119. God will say, “This is a Day when the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness.” They will have Gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will remain forever. God is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him. That is the great attainment.
120. To God belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and what lies in them, and He has power over everything.

I don't like one part of what I'm reading in the commentary this morning. It starts off good enough, with the Lord's prayer "give us this day our daily bread". But then it gets a little twisted again. It's supposedly about making Mary a goddess again.

This passage seems to refer to the well-known prayer for daily bread, which Jesus appears to have included in the famous Lord’s prayer on account of the earthly inclinations of his disciples. The food of earth has no doubt been granted in abundance to the Christians, but this has deprived them of the heavenly food. Compare the Muslim’s prayer in the opening chapter which craves not for bread but for the right path. The form of the prayer, that it should be an ever-recurring happiness, shows clearly that the prayer was not for a table laden with provisions, as is generally supposed. As to its being sent down from heaven, it should be borne in mind that, in the language of the Holy Qur’ån, everything is with God and is sent down to men. Compare 15:21: “And there is not a thing but with Us are the treasures of it, and We send it not down but in a known measure.”
This prophecy is being fulfilled before our eyes. The terrible calamities which the two World Wars have brought to humanity, and especially to the Christian nations, are unprecedented in human history — a chastisement with which I will not chastise anyone among the nations. And what is this punishment due to? The calamities which have befallen the world today, are due to the mad race for bread and for the wealth of this world. The neglect of the higher values of life and running blindly after material comforts has already brought to the world a ruin which it has never witnessed before, and nobody knows what catastrophe is yet in store for it.
From this description of Mary being taken for a god by the Christians, some Christian critics of the Qur’ån conclude that the doctrine of the Trinity according to the Qur’ån consists of three persons — God, Jesus and Mary. But this is an absolutely unwarranted conclusion. Mary is no doubt spoken of as being taken for an object of worship by the Christians; but the doctrine of the Trinity is not mentioned here, while the Divinity of Mary is not mentioned where the Trinity is spoken of. The doctrine and practice of Mariolatry, as it is called by Protestant controversialists, is too well-known. In the catechism of the Roman Church the following doctrines are to be found: “That she is truly the mother of God, and the second Eve, by whose means we have received blessing and life; that she is the mother of Pity and very specially our advocate; that her images are of the utmost utility” (Ency. Br. 11th ed., vol. 17, p. 813). It is also stated that her intercessions are directly appealed to in the Litany. And further, that there were certain women in Thrace, Scythia, and Arabia who were in the habit of worshipping the virgin as a goddess, the offer of a cake being one of the features of their worship. “From the time of the council of Ephesus (held in 431 A.D.),” says the same writer, “to exhibit figures of the virgin and child became the approved expression of orthodoxy ... Of the growth of the Marian cultus, alike in the east and in the west, after the decision at Ephesus it would be impossible to trace the history ... Justinian in one of his laws bespeaks her advocacy for the Empire, and he inscribes the high altar in the new church of St. Sophia with her name. Narses looks to her directions on the field of battle. The Emperor Heraclius bears her image on his banner. John of Damascus speaks of her as the Sovereign lady to whom the whole creation has been made subject by her son. Peter Damian recognizes her as the most exalted of all creatures and apostrophizes her as deified and endowed with all power in heaven and in earth, yet not forgetful of our race.” The Christian world had in fact felt “the need for a mediator to deal with the very mediator”, and thus Mary was raised to the throne of Divinity along with Jesus. The recent proclamation of the Pope relating to the bodily assumption of Mary supports this conclusion, and will raise a new question for the Christian world whether Trinity really consists of God, Jesus and Mary?
The words taghfir la-hum (protect or forgive them) refer to their final protection which will be granted to the Christian nations through acceptance of Islåm. If the forgiveness of sins was meant, the Divine attributes referred to would have been those speaking of forgiveness and mercy, as al-Ghaf ∂r, al-Ra√ßm, i.e. Forgiving, Merciful. Instead of that the attributes referred to are al-‘Azßz al-Ïakßm, or the Mighty, the Wise, which generally indicate that some great purpose would be achieved and a transformation would be brought about. Thus Sudß, one of the earliest commentators says, commenting on the words taghfir la-hum: “If Thou protect them and thus bring them over from Christianity to the guidance of Islåm” (IJ).

Yesterday, or was it the day before, hubby opened the freezer and stuff came falling out. I'm glad nothing hit him.... a frozen five pound turkey breast could break a toe you know. That's when hubby said.... "What a thing to complain about. We have so much food it's attacking us. What a thing to complain about".

"Give us this day, our daily bread" Jesus said that.

Daily bread is more than a sandwich. It's that daily nudging that God gives us that keeps us on the right path.

But then there's the Mariolatry.

I have two sisters who are practicing Catholics. They don't talk to me any more. I'm not worthy.

Meanwhile, if you go to their homes... I'm sure you'll find a little altar to Mary. It's not just that picture of Jesus at the door that Daddy always hung first when we were stationed in a new town. It's not just that picture of Jesus I had in my room. It's a shrine, complete with candles.

Day before yesterday, the #metoo battle received a horrid blow. Bill Cosby was released from jail. The women who stood up in court and witnessed against him for his drugging and raping.... were mortified. They thought they finally had a foot in the door of equality.... but a man.... and ignorant, job covering, moron, made a deal he had no right to make.... and that drugging rapist is free. Men don't worship women. Women are here to be man's helper. We're made for companionship.

I wonder.... was it a woman's need to be equal that put Mary in that position? Were the nuns tired of being the underlings of the priests.... so Mary popped into deity?

God didn't need Mary to be a goddess. God created everything about Mary.... she was not perfect.... she might have even been reluctant. She was human. God needed to be born human so that He could know what it's like to be human..... that's how He can say.... "I know how your feel".

The Protestants like Martin Luther and John Calvin.... didn't hang their thesis on the church doors until about a thousand years after the Muslims got tired of being pushed around by a corrupted church. Yep... I said corrupted.... because that's what happened.... like playing a game of telephone... the Gospel got corrupted by men tweaking it to line their pockets and make their fiscal and political goals more achievable.

New word for the day.... Mariolatry.
