NASCAR as we knew it died years ago.

I agree. I called it dead and over when I could no longer use the one-race engine parts they would sell on eBay in any of my engine builds. Nothing the same..nothing fits..

Just a passing interest in NASCAR since they fined Jr (who I despise) for cussing over the scanner.

Forgive my lack of knowledge , however only change I see is are cars starting from 43 to 40 . I think this is great because now "Start & Park " cars can now stay off track !

We've gone back to 36 teams being guaranteed starting spots. You can have 46 cars show up and, while not likely, a 10th place car be sent home because a 43rd place car is guaranteed a starting spot for life.

It's basically franchising. The main thing is to protect the big teams. If Roush Racing goes under, they now have some protection in that, if a new team wants to join the sport, they'd have to buy Roush's charter. It supposedly also makes it easier for a new team to join, buy a charter and not have to worry about making the field, but I just don't see it happening that way.

The days of Alan Kulwicki winning a championship as an owner-driver, or David Ragan winning Talladega with a low budget team, or John Andretti making the field for the Daytona 500 with a start-up team owned by Bob Jenkins, or a Michael Waltrip Racing entering the sport are over.

Oh, and the Daytona Duel heat races are pretty much meaningless again.

10 years ago, it was the best race of the year, watching drivers make the Great American Race and seeing the satisfaction of that. Seeing the satisfaction of Dave Marcis when he qualified for his final Daytona 500, or a nine person team racing their way into the Daytona 500.
