Rare death. A human dies from rabies here in Maryland for the first time since 1976. Now health officials are investigating how that person contracted the virus. State health officials aren’t releasing specific information on the person who died to protect the privacy of the family—but the case does come as a shock.

I would have never thought such a thing was possible in this day and age...A hospital should know if a patient died from rabies/aids, or whatever is contagious, and that hospital should not transplant this individual's organs, whether or not he/she is an organ donor.

Maybe he had just got infected and died in some other fashion.

" The donor, described as a man in his 20s, died of encephalitis, a general term for inflammation of the brain. The condition has many causes. Viruses such as herpes simplex and West Nile virus are among the more common. Rabies is among the rarest."

So he died of an unknown infection/virus and they donated his stuff anyhow
