Bristol Motor Speedway | Events | Saturday Night Special

Race fans who thought they had seen the last race of Harry Gant or David Pearson, even the legendary Junior Johnson, are in for a big surprise.

Those champion drivers and more are scheduled to be a part of the first Saturday Night Special at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday, March 21.

Paired with celebrity partners, these legendary racers will run 35 circuits of a 50-lap event to benefit charity and send race fans on a trip down memory lane.

The Saturday Night Special will take place after the completion of the Scotts Turf Builder 300 Nationwide Series race and the 100-lap UARA late model event. Admission for the Saturday Night Special is included in the price of the Scotts Turf Builder 300 earlier in the day.

Cale Yarborough and David Pearson are both entered in the event.

... and now, for the best part:yay::

ESPN2 will carry the event LIVE in it's entirety. :yahoo::jerry::cartwheel:dye:

He was but he dropped out because of committments with FOX. Ironically, he dropped out the same time ESPN picked up tv rights - sounds like FOX won't let him run a charity event because SPEED passed up television rights for "Pimp My Ride" and "Unique Whips" :rolleyes:

Keep in mind though, it's a different Bristol now. Not like the old concrete track. It actually drives like it did in the late 80s and early 90s when you could race side-by-side.

They better have operating doors. Pearson is 74 years old and it's going to take hours to get his antique carcass through that window.

I don't know about that just because he's old don't mean he can't drive.

Red Farmer is 79 and he races every weekend at the Talladega dirt track. In fact, he he won the season opener at little Talladega last year.

74 year-old James Harvey Hylton (who got his pro start at Old Dominion Speedway) is still active, he's a regular in the ARCA Re/Max Series.

How about the "King" and who is "Jaws" . My memory fails me! :confused:

Jaws = Darrell Waltrip.

No word on Petty but he was invited to compete.

Harry Gant, Jack Ingram, Junior Johnson, David Pearson. That alone makes for Must See Racing TV! :yahoo:

You can bet your ass on a hot fire I'll be watching this! :jerry:

ESPN -- THANK YOU! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:
