Radio Signals this morning

Anyone else have exceptionally poor radio signals this morning on the way in? All of my saved channels, at least 1 or 2 of which are local and usually static free, had very poor signals this morning.

Is there some kinda solar activity wreckin' my drive to work?

Put another layer of tin foil on your "Hershey's Kisses" cap and things'll straighten out.

I'll check the solar activity, but the atmospherics in this region are very poor for radio signal propagation. Temperature and humidity, especially at this time of year, wreak havoc on radio and TV. It could be we have what's known as "ducting" going on, which means our local signals are suddenly going to some very unlikely places - way down south, most likely. When ducting occurs, it can knock the local signal strength way down.

:howdy: I noticed it too. I was wondering what was up. I would have a good song on, driving down the road and it would go static. There must be something going on. I wonder if Kain's mothership was coming or going.

Kain???

I noticed it the end of last week.. but today was even worse. Last week it was fine at the house, and degraded as I came south. Today it was crap right from my driveway..

Here's another thing I've been wondering about. Is there any scientific reason why a signal would have more static going north-to-south as opposed to going east-to-west.

I realize that distance from the radio station could be a factor, but in my case it doesn't make sense.

e.g. Heading from White Sands to the Route 4/235 intersection, I get MAJOR static when I listen to 98.7 WMZQ in the morning. Also in the morning, I get significantly less static when I'm going from Route 4/235 intersection to the base, even though I'm still traveling further from Washington.

105.1 WAVA worked just fine!

('Course not everybody likes listenin' to preachers in the morning!) :lmao:

It depends who is on. Some of them nearly put me to sleep. :lmao:

And yes, that station was crystal clear this morning. Maybe it is a sign. :jet:

I had the same problem at the end of last week. It started late in the evening. There was a very loud plane flying above and after that I havent had anything but static. I asked people around work last week but none of them noticed anything.

From PRAVDA, of all places!!! (This explains it).

</TD></TR><TR><TD><NOBR>02/03/2005 14:13</NOBR></TD></TR><TR><TD align=justify>It is possible to say now that the Sun will cause a mess on Earth in the near future

Powerful bursts on the Sun have become quite frequent lately. Planet Earth was seized with a strong magnetic storm several days ago, which measured almost the maximum on the 0-9 scale. Proton currents were especially intensive in the European part of Russia. Common people's interest in the solar activity is not limited to the desire of having a good tan. The activity of the Sun may result in bad health, headaches, and blood pressure surges. It may also disrupt radio and satellite communication, or lead to technical malfunctions in the work of devices possessing strong electromagnetic fields. http://english.pravda.ru/img/2005/02/solarflare.jpg

Magnetic storms usually cause a lot of trouble to people. Such days are especially dangerous to those, who suffer from cardiovascular diseases. Flying control officers, drivers and operators experience a lower reaction during magnetic storms. The amplitude of magnetic fluctuations increases from southern latitudes to northern ones. In Russia, railway accidents, for example, are more frequent in northern territories. Athletes are subjected to traumas during magnetic storms. Artists probably make the only group of people, who treat magnetic storms with sympathy. Magnetic storms are visible in the north, in the form of beautiful Aurora Borealis, or northern lights.

A magnetic storm left the Canadian capital, Ottawa, without electricity for eight hours in 1989. A solar storm put the TV satellite Telstar 401 (owned by AT&T) out of order in 1997. Galaxy IV satellite was damaged with a magnetic storm the next year - the satellite was operating ATM machines and aviation tracking systems. The solar storm ruined the Japanese satellite Asko, which fell down and sank in the Pacific Ocean. Magnetic storms affect the work of cellular communication too; they cause damage to the work of the Internet, automatic systems, disturb high-frequency radio communication and so on and so forth.
