I had an Idea , I know it may seem kinda wacked but thought about it .

Have a car raffle ! $20 per ticket. Goal is to get atleast 500 Tickets sold !

Car Details its an 04 Saab 93 Linear Fully loaded ! Auto Trans , 2nd Owner. Mile may seem high but are 92% highway !!!

Think it could fly ? I mean its not a scam and I would give test rides not let people test drive due to insurance and things among that matter. I would like input on this !

I'm not sure that would be legal.

What you mean legal ? It should be there aint nothing wrong with it ! People raffle things off all the time !

And for the $10,000. Its a well takin care of car !

Test Drivers would sign a wavier saying that if they wreck it or damage it they would be held responseable for it.

Its just an Idea

I just heard a story on the radio last week where someone in Edgewater, MD did that with their house. Supposedly the guy sold 24000 tickets for 100 bucks a piece.

And he's giving 10% to charity.

I would consider doing that if the proceeds went over 9k . What ever was left I would donate to a charity possibly Make A Wish Foundation. Or Special olympics .

Are you in Maryland? I'm fairly certain that a raffle is considered gambling under Maryland law. There are specific exceptions written into the law, which vary from county to county, for things such as fire departments, charitable organizations, and political campaigns. Maryland is on the stricter end of the spectrum when it comes to gambling.

I've done a little quick research, and it does appear that a raffle of personal property is not legal in Maryland. A charitable organization could conduct a raffle, but an ordinary citizen could not. In theory, you might be able to have a charity agree to buy the car from you, and then raffle it themselves.

HELLO!!!!!

Okay I checked this out .

Raffles of real Property & Personal Property

Correct me please if I am wrong ! I am in St.Marys county , they dont have permits for raffle's . I dont see any place that it says against the law !

That page provides guidance for charities when doing raffles. In St. Mary's County, they just don't have to get a permit to raffle personal property, which is required in other counties. It's still not legal for a citizen to conduct a raffle, because it is considered gambling which is prohibited by § 12-102 of the Maryland Criminal Law Code, to wit:
(a) Prohibited.- A person may not:

(1) bet, wager, or gamble;

(2) make or sell a book or pool on the result of a race, contest, or contingency;

(3) establish, keep, rent, use, or occupy, or knowingly allow to be established, kept, rented, used, or occupied, all or a part of a building, vessel, or place, on land or water, within the State, for the purpose of:

(i) betting, wagering, or gambling; or

(ii) making, selling, or buying books or pools on the result of a race, contest, or contingency; or

(4) receive, become the depository of, record, register, or forward, or propose, agree, or pretend to forward, money or any other thing or consideration of value, to be bet, wagered, or gambled on the result of a race, contest, or contingency.

In Maryland, it isn't legal to participate in or operate a game of chance, with things of value on the line.

There are a number of exceptions spelled out in Maryland Code, Criminal Law, Titles 12 and 13. Specifically among those are 'raffles' conducted under certain conditions and by certain organizations. If 'raffles' were not illegal by virtue of 12-102, then they wouldn't need to specify certain raffles as being legal exceptions, and not others

If you look around enough, you should be able to find different sources that indicate that raffles aren't legal in Maryland. Such as this page from the University of Maryland. I'm sure there are other, better sources of confirmation out there.

If you have any doubt, then I suggest you contact the District Attorney's office and ask them. Hopefully, they would be able to give you a definitive answer.

All that being said, you probably could have a charitable organization raffle it - but I think they would have to agree up front to pay you a certain price, and take their chances selling enough tickets to cover it. Or, in the alternative, their purchase from you could be contingent on them selling enough tickets to cover it, in which case you would have to have an appraisal to justify their purchase price. At least, that is how it works with real property - perhaps personal property is different.
