Deputy struck a pedestrian. I'm not sure of the details on the circumstances. Patient was taken pri. 3 (the lowest transport priority) to Calvert Memorial. He was conscious and talking the whole time.

I caught it just after it started. I believe a pedestrian was struck.

I'm surprised that doesn't happen more often. There are so many people who think they can walk in the middle of the road at night wearing black but expect not to get hit.

Pedestrian was charged...

Due to his position in the roadway, color of his outer garments and the absence of retro reflective material on all of his clothing Borgholthaus could not be seen by motorists traveling south on Gunsmoke Trail. As a result of the investigation Daniel Jack Borgholthaus was issued a Maryland Uniform Traffic Citation charging him with a violation of the MD Transportation Article §21-506 (b) Pedestrian Failure to Walk on Left Shoulder and Left Side of Roadway When Sidewalk Not Provided.

 why would someone walk WITH traffic in that place :banghead:

Pfft... Not only do people walk with traffic in that place, they often wear non-reflective black clothing and skullcaps.

It's a miracle this doesn't happen 2-3 times a week.

A couple days ago, I took was dropping my daughter off at her friends house, and during the 2 minute drive, I came up on a guy, in all dark clothes, walking his dog - right out in the street and walking with traffic. Not a light to be seen, and this dude was all but invisible.

I wanted to get out of my car and slap him on general principles, but it was too cold.

When I lived in there, a neighbor was trying to drive down the street to her home. A group of 30 or so kids were in the middle of the street at night and refused to move so she could drive by. She honked and they surrounded her car, scaring her. She drove slowly and they walked with her car. She turned into my drive and they backed away. She came in and called police. When the cop came out he told us that the "pedestrian has the right of way and no motorist can insist they move, even if they are blocking the only road to your house." He said he couldn't even tell them to move, she'd just have to wait until they left!

Happens to me all the time. All of a sudden there's a set of teeth about five feet above the road.

The cop just didn't want to deal with a bunch of kids that night.

I have started to see just a few wannabes in my neighborhood. Walking the whole width of the street all five of them. Thing is I knew them from when they were babies. I stop, roll down the window, and say who do you think will win? They laugh and move.

I wonder if anyone else besides a cop were to hit a pedestrian would the pedestrian be charged, and not the driver... Seems kind of strange to me.

I just fire up the dog and start opening the door, and watch em scatter like roaches...

Unless I don't have the dog with of course... Then I find a tire iron in my hand as I open the door works in a pinch. :lmao:
