Rant against Bratz dolls

I am such a horrible mommy. My 5 year old got Baby Bratz dolls for her b-day. And now she is wanting to have black hair, black nails, black eyeliner, and wear all black clothing :yikes: I will admit I go with the black clothes and the black nails. I don't have a problem with it. Hell not even 6 months ago, she wanted pink hair so she was given pink streaks through her blonde hair.

Sounds like you got her Goth Bratz.

My daughter is totally into videos and anything "fashion" related. I just keep it in check and let her know the limits. She's only 10 though, so I haven't hit the big time stuff yet. She had the Bratz dolls, but never really played with them.

I think Barbie is OK for my kids, except for the Barbie Mall I saw the other day. It comes with a toy credit card. It's enough to make Milton Friedman become a Marxist.
What about McDonalds Barbie? Wouldn't that be telling your child it's okay to work fast food all your life?

So I have to lock my children up and not let them watch TV or movies or listen to music because we have a sex obsessed society that thinks skeezy dolls that look like they've been rode hard and put away wet are appropriate for children? And I should homeschool them so they don't fall prey to peer pressure of the other kids whose parents DO let them get all sexed up?
You could always move to Afghanistan....

My girls are now into American Girl dolls - yes, I guided them in that direction. While they're expensive, they're wholesome and educational so I don’t mind spending the money on them.

I've been fortunate that my kids are not into watching music videos.
I am please to report that, while transporting your daughter to the balloon place, she did not say one objectionable phrase, nor did she act inappropriately in any way, shape or form. She was polite, respectful, entertaining and personable - you're doing a very nice job with her :yay:

Therefore, I nominate Kwillia for "Mommy Monitor" - the barometer of what we should and shouldn't do with our kids. The world would be a better place if there were more BabyKwillys in it.

How can that be? Dolls don't influence children's behavior - BuddyLee says so. :jet:

My daughter likes them too. She gets their magazine too. Their movies are really good also!
My girls and I have deal - we buy the books first they usually come in a 3 or 4 book pack and after they've read them all, if they want the doll, I'll buy it for them. Right now, we planning a trip to New York to the American Girl Store this Spring.

We got our kids a whole shitload of these hero toys. I can't even begin to remember where we got them - but I wish I could because they're the kids favorite toys. (Except for the oldest who is into the Xbox now).

Of course the kids have them running down dinosaurs and riding H2s or fighting with/against Spiderman, but I think those are pretty good toys - and more importanly the kids think they're pretty good toys.

Anyway, they're paramedics, cops, and firemen and stuff like that. But they're not lame looking action figures.. they look cool - and that's why they've appealed to the kids. They need more positive toys that are cool.

And I think that's the biggest problem - is that the wholesome or positive toys are oftentimes just lame-city, while negative (either geared toward sex and violence) like bratz or something neutral usually look cool and get the kids attention.

Of course, the youngest is usually more interested in the boxes the toys come in than the actual toys themselves. I'm cool with that. Boxes are positive toys. They hold things, plus you can fly into space with them.

Your 5 y/o is allowed to watch NCIS? Or, did I miss the :sarcasm:
No :sarcasm: It isn't like I let her watch Nip/Tuck...gesh. I really don't see the harm in letting her watch NCIS or even CSI. She isn't going out trying to imate what she sees being done (besides wanting to dress in a Goth manner and have tattoos, of which both of her parents have many).

I must agree. My children probably see more than most parents let their kids see, but they are great kids, well liked, great in school, and are very well rounded. I think it depends on the involvement of parents on all levels. I don't just let them watch/do whatever they want, and not involve myself in their lives. They do many activities and are active in community and church organizations as well.

Shows like NCIS, CSI, etc., are way to too violent, bloody and gory for me to watch let alone my little girls. Actually, we don't allow our girls to watch TV Monday through Thursday and then its basically the Disney Channel or some other pre-selected age appropriate show.
