Does anyone know about the raw/ BARf diet, as far as the dry dog food is concerned? Is the dry food actually raw? does it need to be refridgerated? Also if you are feeding the raw diet which do you use and which do you recommend? Thansk in advance!

You can cook your own food to the specifications of the BARF diet. I suppose you can freeze it. But it would have the same "life" as the ingredients in it.

You can buy the already made raw diet at Clippers.

Anyone know a good soft dogfood for older dogs? Not canned. A dry dogfood.

Vince, if I were you, I'd call Kate at Clippers. She's got a lot of good products and I'm sure she can help you.

I use Canidae Senior for my old guy and he does really well on it but it's not soft..it's a small kibble though.

You've seen her. She's just a little dog and so old, she has a tough time chewing some of the hard stuff. If I give her the canned stuff, she eats it up and then throws it up. I'll give Kate a call.

Have you tried wetting the dry food with a little warm water?

She won't eat it if I wet it down. She likes the soft ones in the Kibbles and Bits. Sticks her nose up at the hard food. I leave it in her dish and she eventually eats it when she gets hungry enough.

BARF stands for Bones and Raw Food. Raw/BARF is diet consisting of raw foods (meat, veggies, etc.) balanced with supplements for a rounded diet. Dry food/kibble isn't a part of a pure raw diet. If you are looking at prepackaged raw diet you are (or should be getting) blends of raw meat and veggies.

My mom has a dog that is old and can't do hard dog food.
She would barf with canned dog food as well. My mom normally boils her up some chicken and mixes it in with some rice, and I think she adds vegetables or something to it as well. Whatever it is she mixes up, it seems to work, the dog is about 18 years old and still going strong. :yay:
