Reached two milestones today

Got an email that since I turn 50 this year I can put extra money toward catchup contributions into my TSP. I've been maxing it out since 2005 and welcome the additional money I can put in to save some on taxes. Not sure if this was a congratz email or a haha you're old email.

Also I reached the amount I was told that I would need to retire back when I was in my 20s, not counting a pension. So I'm pretty happy to reach that goal quite early (49 1/2).

If I worked until I could "afford" to retire comfortably, I'd probably never make it. I've decided to take SS early to have a supplement to my current salary and hopefully bank/invest the bulk of it for a few years. I've never really lived "comfortably" so it won't be much of a culture shock.

Congratulations on surpassing your goals!

Can you live off 1,000,234.00 in retirement if so Im quitting next week

Standard 4% draw down per annum nets you just over $40,000 annually. Depends on your age and the lifestyle you desire in retirement. I know plenty of people who do, but it’s not a lot to live on.
