On June 18, 2011 there will be an American Red Cross Blood drive in Memory of’ Marlene Kar Martone from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Encounter Christian Center in Charlotte Hall (behind the Burger King.) Every two minutes someone receives a unit of blood in the United States. Each blood donor’s gift could assist up to three individuals. While all blood types are needed during the critical summer months, type O negative is in high demand because it can be transfused to patients with any blood type, especially in emergency situations. Type O negative donors can make the difference between a stable blood supply or a summer shortage.
We encourage all blood donors to prepare for their donation by eating regular meals and foods that are rich in iron. All donors should weight at least 110 lbs. be healthy, Donors should be at least 17 years old. However with parental permission 16 year olds may donate blood and we will have permission slips available.
Remember to bring your photo ID and donor card if you are currently a blood donor. Bring the names of any medication you are currently taking. And a list of places you have traveled outside the U.S. and Canada in the last 12 months.
Marlene’s parents will be there during the blood drive and will be playing music. Charlotte Hall Nutrition will also be providing samples of their shakes for individuals after they have given blood.
