Red Light Cameras

I am not in favor of them BUT, damn... they would make a mint off of them around here. Amazes me how many people try to gun it through the intersections. No wonder there are so many T-bone accidents

Saw 4 red light runners just between Great Mills and Lowe's on the way to work today.

Yeah, but even if they made them revenue neutral, they dont make anyone safer. They dont deter the ones who run the light so late that they crash. Thats why all our intersections have a full second all red overlap.

I agree 100% that they do not contribute to safety. I just wish they would put them in and ticket them at $200-300 each offense. Put that money into the schools. Each kid would have a school laptop and no supply list within 2 years in this county :lmao:

ONce you get into fines that hefty, people fight rather than pay. And of course, you can earmark it for education, but the politicians will just reduce the budget by the amount of revenue generated. See lotteries and schools...

It is not red light running, as most know it (passing under the light just when it changes or a bit after, but before the green is given to opposing traffic), that causes accidents, it is the inattentive driver. One or the other. And that is the money maker. Now if those cameras only recorded a car running the light after about 1 or 2 seconds after the red light, and charged a fine of $300 plus, that I would support.

That's not likely. How much has all of that casino revenue raised the school budget? Money's too fungible, every dollar they put in from some external source they take out of the general funding.

No, not really enough late runners to make enough to make a profit, even at a $300 fine per. These systems require volume. And they also demand that virtually nobody fight the tickets, because court costs eat up the profits pretty fast. And with $300 dollar fines, folks WILL fight. Because the burden of proof will rise.

In the case of the County Commissioner's wife who had someone run through a red light and killed her, a red light camera would simply send a ticket to whomever the tag came back to. Most importantly, many tags in Maryland that are operated by "illegals" don't come back on file!! Therefore, they wouldn't be ticketed while the rest of us would be. Your Democrats that run our State in Annapolis think it is perfectly fair.

Based on everything I heard over the years that would be money for the schools, the schools should have billions by now. Yet, they continue to moan and groan that they don't have enough.

Work as little as possible for the most money being able to be fleeced from the taxpayer. The teacher's motto.

There, fixed. Pretty much teachers are just doing what they can with what they have.

Uhhh, ok, that'll work to. Except for the very high percentage, say 95%, of teachers that will picket, strike (if their state allows), work-to-rule, protest, whine, cry, have hissy fits, throw tantrums, until they get their way, or when their unions, or associations, tell them to shut up and go back to work. I've never met a, [public school] teacher I've spoken with that isn't, or hasn't, bitched about wanting and demanding more money or benefits etc.

My Aunt Charlotte was a teacher in the Springfield, MA school system for 38 years.

Says the 3 worst things to happen to teaching since the late 60's: the undergraduate teaching degree (she got a Bachelor's in English with minors in math and science, then got a Master's in Primary Education), the politicization of the teacher's union and the federal Department of Education (5 % of their funding and 50% of their regulations and paperwork).
