This article also admonishes Catholics to take the Eucharist seriously, i.e. Catholics must believe they are literally consuming Christ’s flesh and drinking his blood through the miracle of “transubstantiation”. Most Catholics find this teaching hard to swallow, pardon the pun.
Many modern day Catholics, especially Americans, simply pick and choose what they will and what they will not believe in. Can’t say that I blame them.
If I woke this morning to believe that my pancakes had changed into the body of Elvis, I have lost my mind. But if I believe the same thing about a wafer and the body of Christ, I am just a Catholic.
