All they need to do is watch the taxpayers and make sure they’re not up to any mischief or unapproved activities.

Exactly. Especially in a state that does not prosecute crimes. So such an investment must serve some sort of payoff… hmm. What better way to identify vehicles not in line with their aggressive climate saving policies?

To put in perspective, I stopped at local MVA to renew tags. Last day of the month, but no line at kiosk. Ran into family member who was unable to renew her tag because it was flagged for unpaid bridge toll. She had proof in hand the toll had been paid. However, such disputes are not handled by local MVA. She was on the phone on hold with the main MD MVA branch getting nowhere fast.

A risk taken by waiting to the last minute to renew only to find out your account records are not correct? Sure.

The point is license plate scanning crossed against a variety of databases we have no way of validating or disputing is indeed passive control of our freedom and rights.
