That are patently false.
One I USED to hear, but not lately is "most illegal aliens are visa overstays".
THAT is false, because we already know how many illegal aliens are entering due to catch and release, and estimates on got aways - persons pursued, that escaped. It's also false because the majority of visa "overstays" - are CANADIANS. So - why aren't we overrun with Canadians? Easy - that bullchit statistic was concocted by the difference between visa entries and departures. We have an ENORMOUS number of visas issued each year, and a small fraction of them - a few percentage points - we don't know how they leave. That doesn't mean they're still here, and proof of that is, we don't have millions of Canadians - we just don't know how they got home.
But another - a variant on the illegal aliens story is that most fentanyl is entering at ports and carried by Americans. Fentanyl SEIZED at ports. The argument is ridiculous on its face, because those drugs are caught. Are they honestly trying to make the case that if we just stepped up security at ports, we can shut down the fentanyl trade completely? That the ONLY REASON we have a problem at all, is because inspectors at ports fail to do their job, and smugglers are stupid enough to try and get it past them?
I recall a joke when I was a kid. "Did you know Sam talks to himself, when he's alone?" "I don't know - I've never been with him when he's alone".
Same damned thing - you can't claim most fentanyl comes through the ports and seized, when clearly TONS are making it through. Because it's illegal - because it's being smuggled. And the quantities that ARE seized that are brought by illegals are vastly higher than in previous years.
Logic says if tons and tons are here - and we're getting the stuff smuggled at ports - then it's not coming that way, is it?

EDIT to add: It is impossible to state how much drugs enter the country that goes undetected - just as undetected drugs cannot be traced via their path into the country. It is EASILY disproved that those seized at the border crossings - by illegals - the story that it's AMERICAN CITIZENS doing it, is easily shown false.

When I pointed out that the same proportion of those folks who had valid asylum claims equals the amount of innocent people in jail who are actually innocent, he sorta went quiet.
