On May 17 at approximately 10:30 a.m., administrators at the F.B. Gwynn Educational Center found a student to be in possession of a pellet gun in their book bag. The school resource officer was notified and initiated an investigation. In accordance with Maryland law, the student will not face criminal charges due to their age; however, the school resource officer notified the Charles County Department of Juvenile Services to provide services as needed. The student faces disciplinary consequences from the Charles County Public Schools.
Parents are urged to speak with their children about the dangers of possessing weapons or items that could be construed as weapons on school grounds. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call M/Cpl. Burger at 301-609-3282 ext. 0475. The investigation is ongoing.
