Rescue Squad Fundraising

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before (I did a quick search and didn't find anything relevant), but is it normal for the local Fire Departments and Rescue squads to go door-to-door requesting donations? I didn't think it was and found the fact that they were saying they accept checks as a little odd, given all the fraud out there. I'm all about supporting volunteers, especially since I once was one. Curious as to the groups experience. TIA.

Interesting. Maybe there's a difference between HVFD and HVRS but I found a Facebook post from January saying they do not go door-to-door and to contact the SO. Thank you.

Agree. When the kids were little we would actually use that photo coupon for family photos. They didn't turn out too bad either. Nowadays we treat that as a donation if we don't use it.

Just seemed odd as it's the first time in the 10 years I've lived here they came by. I think we used to receive mailers requesting them. I actually hope they're legit and not someone taking an opportunity to play on peoples emotions and support for our local volunteers.

They used to come to my door and I would contribute, until I talked to my buddy at the LPVRS. He said they are NOT members of the squad, and only a small percentage of the funds actually get to the squad.

I stopped giving to the door knockers.

I actually called the HVRS and the gent I spoke to said their "may" be some members of the auxiliary soliciting. Funny part was him saying he's received numerous call over the past month or so. I would think an announcement of some sort prior to starting a drive would go a long way to avoiding confusion.
