Howdy all-

Is Verizon the only phone service provider in Tall Timbers? I'm having serious problems with Verizon cramming my bill (stacking unauthorized charges) and want to go with anybody else. Thanks!

I have VOIP through Vonage with my cable internet and so far have had great service. I have everything Verizon offers at 1/3rd the price and can edit, change, any of my service online instantly on their web site . :coffee:

I am a sales agent for Close Call America. They are a great telephone company and are actually based in MD. They offer everything Verizon does but at a cheaper price and with alot less hassle. If you want more info e-mail me at jenstotlercca@closecall.com

No this is a regular line phone service. They offer everything, Local, Long Distance, Cellular, Internet, voice mail, call waiting, etc. and at a cheaper rate. If I am the one that signs you up I can get the fees for switching waived. I have been with them for several years and love them.

I had Close Call America for maybe 10 years. The only reason I went back to Verizon was they started the "Freedom" plan. Local and long distance for $39.95. CCA now has a similar plan. CCA leases the time and lines from Verizon and when you have a problem, they (CCA) will actually answer the phone with a real American. You will get service faster than if you were dealing with Verizon. It is a good company.

Never heard of CCA. Going to give them a shot b/c all I ever get from Verizon is :lalala:

Seriously, Verizon needs a good :wench: and I hope Santa leaves them a buttload of coal. OK. I'm done. Thanks.

I've heard of these various phone companies and have been hesitant to change because I'm not familiar with how they work.

Specifically, the VOIP service. I'm pretty computer savvy but I remember hearing some time ago about how the VOIP can't dial 911 or something to that effect. Has that changed?

I'm always looking into ways to save money - especially when it comes to Verizon. I've had their DSL service since we moved in here over 1 1/2 years ago and they have yet to bill me correctly. I call every couple months and tell them how they have screwed up my account and it doesn't seem to make a difference. One month I get billed - the next month I don't. The month after that, I get billed twice. Makes for a very interesting (and wildly fluctuating) phone bill.

I'll check out the other options now to see what everyone has to offer.

I'm tempted to go with Vonage but they do have a "different" 911 system but they don't say what "different" really means. I've also heard that faxing is not reliable.

I would sure like to dump both Comcast and Verizon but would like to deal with just one company.

Good luck on straightening out your bill. No one in Verizon is allowed to make any decision and after a lengthly on hold time, a snow job on all of your questions, they are required to ask you if you are happy with the response to your query. Unbelievable.

Yeah, I like that when they ask you at the end of the conversation, "Did we provide you with excellent service today?" If you answer, "no," they apologize but it still doesn't make any difference in terms of the way in which they handle your account.

I've looked at Vonage, Close Call America (which doesn't really save me a whole lot once I tack on the internet) and Cavalier (which I don't think serves my area because they couldn't validate my address) and I can't really make heads or tails as to whether they would save me money.

The thought of going with Comcast is really not appealing because I've been with them before (and I'm with them now for cable only because my house is surrounded by trees and I can't get satellite TV).

Any other companies I should check out?

For 911 Vonage has you fill out a paper with your home address and they must register it with your local emergency services, so when you dial 911 (actually they call it 911E) your home address information will be displayed to the dispatcher. As a backup, I still have a cell phone and if conditions are really bad, it's best to leave the area and notify a family member or friend out of state and let them know your evacuation intentions before or if you must leave. :coffee:

PS, I also like the fact I was able to keep my old Verizon number (took about two weeks to change over) and they provided a temporary home number in the mean time, I just continued to use my Verizon service untill it switched, then unplugged Verizon and set up my Vonage service router. Vonage does all the changes for you.

I have vonage and they are not trustworthy in my opinion. They say one thing and mean another.

Plus 411 is 99 cents a call which adds up quick. Yes I do have one phone book from the 90's.

Close call seems expensive to me but I could be wrong....

If you live in SOMD, don't hold your breath, plus Comcast charges more for their services... :coffee:

:fixed:

I live in Calvert and I have Comcast. And yes, Comcast does charge more and you definitely get less in terms of service. I wish I had another choice but they have it "wrapped up" here for cable service.
