Retail Establishments Posting on Calendar

I feel it is not appropriate for retail establishments to post advertisements on the community calendar. This should be only for social clubs/organizations/charities, etc.

Let the tirades begin!

Today's listing has a listing for a crab feast at a local restaurant. The restaurant should buy an ad instead.
Ok, I looked around for a while, but missed that one. I agree. Commercial groups should pay for advertising.

I see it no better that charity groups and churches are allowed to plug away for free. They have money. After all, retail establishments, especially restaurants, are in competition with all these church dinners and festivals. Plus, for organizations and churches, it would be a one or two week long advertising fee, whereas a retail establishment would have to advertise a whole lot more.

Charity groups and churches are non-profit and usually operate on shoestring budgets...if they have any money at all. That's why they get breaks. Also, many of their events are free.

Free? Go to any church dinner, optimist dinner, lion's club bbq, St. Mary's Crab Festival, Potomac Jazz Festival, Blessing of the Fleet and tell me how much free stuff you get. I'm not against their raising money, they all are for good causes, but to say they operate on shoestring budgets is way off.

I guess it depends on what type of non profit organizations you are referring to. Are you sure some local non profit groups are not operating on a shoe string budget? Are you sure that there not raising money for other efforts other than their organization?
