Retread tire PSA...

...it's summer and the economy still sucks. It seems to me more than ever, there are pieces of blown up retreads all over the road these days, a sure sign truckers are trying to save some serious cash; running retreads and running them too long.

So, for us riders, this isn't a nuisance and minor damage to a car. It is a trip to the hospital or the morgue. :dead:

I was heading west on I70 this PM, ATGATT, tennis shoes, t shirt and, I think, shorts, rolling along and East bound maybe 200 yards behind me one went and I looked back in time to see what looked like a small IED going off. BIG chunks flying everywhere along with a cloud of smoke and, no doubt, lots of small pieces.

So, fellow riders, do NOT ride along with trucks. Stay back, well back or get the #### past them, RIGHT now and keep on keeping on. Speed and heat and the economic realities of retreads is an existential threat to us, gear or not.

REtreads have been a rule for commercial trucks for decades, Larry. But yep, "gators" can ruin your whole day......

At an average of $1,000 per tire for a large commercial truck yup it's why some owners go re-tread. :dead:

Damn, surprised you don't see more big trucks up on blocks with their tires and wheels missing.

I've seen the same thing. I thought re-treads were out-lawed years ago for some reason. I can't remember how I heard this. It should be out-lawed.

They've long been banned on the front wheels. It seems to me I recall a hot process and a cold process and one or the other was ended? Kwill probably knows.

In any event, it just seems a LOT more debris on the roads these days and watching one blow while being on the bike, my point is to stay the hell away or move passed trucks in a deliberate and timely fashion. :buddies:
