Returning merchandise

I went to the mall in Dover last night to return something to a store. The item was untouched, still had tags, in the original bag, AND I had the receipt. BF purchased the item with his debit card. The clerk asked me if I had that debit card, and I said, "No, it's my boyfriend's card." So, she asked if I wanted a gift card. I said no. She told me I either had to have that original debit card, or get a gift card. It wasn't a huge deal, because BF was in the mall (at the other end), so I just went and brought him back to the store with me, and she credited the debit card.

I can understand having to get the refund on a gift card if the item had only a gift receipt, but why couldn't they just give me cash? I used to work retail, and it was no big deal to just give cash back. It's not like it was a credit card, either. It was a debit card.

I believe Forever 21 in the Waldork Mall only gives store credit for anything you return.

I went through the same thing will Old Navy, and will not shop at that store again. The girl---sales person--was really rude!

On the other side, as a former retail Loss Prevention Manager, I can tell you that people will scam in the most creative ways. They will either bring in their old receipts, or look around the parking lot for old receipts (the junkies did this a lot). Then they will come in the store--with a store bag, and try to find everything on that receipt, put it in the bag, and then come to customer service with the bag and try to return everything. I have so many stories....

I have run into some wild return policies. Latest, I purchased furniture, paid in full on my AE. I called two days later to cancel the order (it had not been delivered yet) and found out they have a 24 hour cancellation policy. I don't think Forever 21 will return or give store credit for anything. I had bought a dress from there and didn't realize it had a rip in it. The dress still had the tags attached, never worn and they refused to even give me store credit. I haven't stepped foot in that store since (this was 3 years ago).

Maybe if it was just one or two....We had a homeless colony down the river from where the store was. It was really bad! I had people trying to take baths in the parking lot puddles, bathroom sinks, etc. There was something new everyday!

My very last day we had a guy freaking out--telling people there was a man in the store with a gun. Took me a few seconds to figure out that he was "seeing things". He ran out of the store and started trying to get into people's vehicles (a few while they were still moving). Took 4 cops to pin the guy down. They tried to taser him, but missed. Anyway, I'm glad that's over. :howdy:
