Revelation 16:8 The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire. 9 They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.
Boy these people are hardheaded!
One of the commentaries explains it this way.
The environmentalists are telling us every day that we are destroying the Ozone layer above the earth. Every time a person sprays their hair or uses an aerosol spray of any kind it does away with Ozone. The scientists tell us that this is so thin that it might just go away altogether. And if it did, people would die by the thousands from harmful rays from the sun that had not been filtered to make them safe.
Another says this.
The sun has been used twice before in God’s program of the end. It was temporarily darkened at the sixth seal. A third of the sun darkened by the fourth trumpet. This judgment with the aid of the sun does not contradict the two previous references to the sun. The heat of the sun is the issue at this point. Previously the issue had been its light.
Remember... at this point, water has turned to sludge. There is nothing to drink. Now the sun is burning.
