Revelation 17:1 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the punishment of the great prostitute, who sits by many waters. 2 With her the kings of the earth committed adultery, and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries.”
3 Then the angel carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness. There I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was covered with blasphemous names and had seven heads and ten horns. 4 The woman was dressed in purple and scarlet, and was glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls. She held a golden cup in her hand, filled with abominable things and the filth of her adulteries. 5 The name written on her forehead was a mystery:

the mother of prostitutes
and of the abominations of the earth.
6 I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of God’s holy people, the blood of those who bore testimony to Jesus.
This is from Enduring Word..... As a religious system, Babylon came into being long before Christianity, but in Satanic imitation it anticipated the coming true Messiah. According to religious history and legend, the Babylonian religion was founded by the wife of Nimrod (a great-grandson of Noah), named Semiramis. She was a high priestess of idol worship, and she gave birth to a son who she claimed was conceived miraculously. The son, named Tammuz, was considered a savior. Many ancient artifacts remain with the familiar motif of the mother Semiramis holding the savior-infant Tammuz, which predate Christianity. It was also said that Tammuz was killed by a wild beast and then miraculously brought back to life. Baal was the local, Canaanite name for the Babylonian Tammuz.
So... we're reading the visions of John, the Best Earthly Buddy of Jesus, on the Isle of Patmos. He was all alone... in exile... and while studying the clouds... he had visions. This one is about the religions based on idol worship. In the end times.... It's going to be a horrible thing to be a Christian. For years, now, I have been harping on the moron in the pew next to us. He's the one who shows up with his wife and kids. He's the one who knows all the scripture by heart and will quote that scripture on a nana-second's notice. He pays his tithe with religious promptness and pomp. He serves on the boards and controls what is preached and taught. He serves on the boards and controls the tenor of the sermons. He serves on the boards and controls the message.
This is the guy who demanded we wear our pistols in church, and take his side on the issues of , poverty, race and abortion that best suit his agenda. He has never missed a meal and his children want for nothing. His wife attends all the best events and she is well educated in the manners of the day.
He runs the local church.... and he never ever accepted Christ as his Savior. He and his kind worship the Whore of Babylon right there in the pew next to you.
The local church has a lot of pompous morons who bow to the followers of Tammuz.
Three brothers got off Noah's boat. One of them brought along "the other side".
Tammuz was the son of a hooker.... and didn't know his father....
Jesus was the son of a young virgin..... and praised His Father....
So that's what's behind the "whore of Babylon".
