Revelation 2:18 “To the angel of the church in Thyatira write:

These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. 19 I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first.

20 Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophet. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21 I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22 So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23 I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.

24 Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan’s so-called deep secrets, ‘I will not impose any other burden on you, 25 except to hold on to what you have until I come.’

26 To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations— 27 that one ‘will rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like pottery’—just as I have received authority from my Father. 28 I will also give that one the morning star. 29 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

Revelation 2:27 Psalm 2:9

Thyatira is now named Akhisar, located in Turkey.

The clearest commentary I found offers a picture of the town of Thyatira, the problems Christians faced, and the reward for Christians who "hang in there" until the end.

Thyatira was the home of Lydia, the seller of purple cloth. Thyatira was the home of a trader's guild. No doubt the people who sold the purple cloth or the purple dye had to belong to the guild. The guild would hold parties, feasts, or gatherings. At these gatherings, there would be sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.

I like to think of it this way.... suppose you were an alcoholic and you had to go to the company party where they had an open bar..... how tempting would that be? Suppose you were a sex addict.... and the company party was held in a strip bar.... how hard would that be? You would be required to attend.... you would have to make the appearance of belonging to the guild while graciously holding a glass of soda pop in your hand so that it didn't get spiked and divert your eyes from the strippers. It can be almost impossible.

It says here that Jesus has eyes of fire.... meaning He can see your pain. He knows what you're going through. If you hang in there.... He'll reward you with a crown.

It says that He's offered plenty of time for repentance. One Bible Study teacher said that the end of the world will happen only when Jesus has given everyone the time to hear the Word and repent. How much longer do you think He's going to make us stand in the hall will a soda pop in our hands while we wait for the others to see the light of the Morning Star [which is Jesus Himself according to the commentaries]?

Finally, the phrase "purple prose" kept coming to mind while I was studying these commentaries. Purple Prose is defined "in literary criticism, purple prose is written prose that is so extravagant, ornate, or flowery as to break the flow and draw excessive attention to itself". Just figured I should throw that in to this discussion.
