Revelation 21:9 One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It shone with the glory of God, and its brilliance was like that of a very precious jewel, like a jasper, clear as crystal. 12 It had a great, high wall with twelve gates, and with twelve angels at the gates. On the gates were written the names of the twelve tribes of Israel. 13 There were three gates on the east, three on the north, three on the south and three on the west. 14 The wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

15 The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod of gold to measure the city, its gates and its walls. 16 The city was laid out like a square, as long as it was wide. He measured the city with the rod and found it to be 12,000 stadia[c] in length, and as wide and high as it is long. 17 The angel measured the wall using human measurement, and it was 144 cubits[d] thick.[e] 18 The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19 The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, 20 the fifth onyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth turquoise, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.[f] 21 The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass.

22 I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their splendor into it. 25 On no day will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night there. 26 The glory and honor of the nations will be brought into it. 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

c. Revelation 21:16 That is, about 1,400 miles or about 2,200 kilometers
d. Revelation 21:17 That is, about 200 feet or about 65 meters
e. Revelation 21:17 Or high
f. Revelation 21:20 The precise identification of some of these precious stones is uncertain

I know... it's a lot of verses.... there's no dragon or beast in these verses.... there is, however.... a whole city descending on a mountain top..... while the stupid humans were trying their best to do everything they could to get rid of God.... God was building a new Jerusalem.... and dig this.... it had Jasper walls.... Jasper [a crystal].... a crystal palace of a town.... imagine that... precious jewels.... gold... silver....

OK... here's the commentary from amazingdiscoveries.com.

The New Jerusalem: One of the angels which poured out the “seven last plagues” directs John’s attention to the holy city, the New Jerusalem coming down “out of heaven from God.” It is shining with the glory of God and sparkles like a precious jewel.

The city is a perfect square. It is surrounded by a high wall and has 12 gates, 3 on each side of the city, vs. 13. On each gate it is the name of one of the 12 tribes of Israel. There are also 12 foundations inscribed with the names of the 12 apostles'

The city measures 1500 miles and the wall is said to be 216 feet. Some scholars believe the 1500 mile measurement may be the circumference of the city, which would make each side 375 miles in length, and give the city a surface area about the size of the state of Montana. Whether the city is 1500 miles on each side or only 375 miles the primary concept to understand is that God’s city is big enough for everyone who desires residence there.

Every measurement and number given for the New Jerusalem is either the number 12, or is derived from the number 12. This city is a literal place that symbolizes the people of God, and His kingdom. It is the Most Holy Place of the universe, and dwelling place of God among His people.

The city is of “pure gold, like unto clear glass.” It is decorated with “precious stones,” and the foundations are beautiful gems shining with all the colors of a rainbow. Each of the 12 gates is made up of a single magnificent pearl.

“God Almighty and the Lamb” are its “temple,” and their glory “is the light thereof,” and “there shall be no night there.” There will be no evil or wickedness there, but only “they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.”

I am amazed at the size of this whatever it is.... This place [according to the amazingdiscoveries.com commentary]has four walls and each is 375 MILES.... not feet or yards.... MILES long and on top of that.... the walls are solid Jasper.... I googled Jasper.... turns out... it has healing powers.... fancy that....

Now the easy English says the walls were 1500 miles long NOT 375 as amazingdiscoveries.com states.... apparently the commentator at the Amazing Discoveries desk can't wrap their head around the scope of God's ability.... I know I could barely imagine a wall 375 miles long.... staring me in the face.... but now I learn it's four times that..... wow....

The angel had a gold stick. He measured the city with this stick. He also measured the gates and the wall. The stick was a little more than 10 feet long (3 metres).

The city was square. Each side was about 1500 (2400 kilometres) miles. The height of the city was also 1500 miles.

This is not a city, as we now understand it. The size of the New Jerusalem would not fit into the country of Israel. We do not have cities as high as they are long and wide. So, this must be a special description. John describes what we cannot know. He cannot describe what he saw in human language. But John gives us impressions of things that we could not imagine.

The angel measured the walls. They were about 216 feet (65 metres) thick. The scale that people used was the cubit. A cubit was a length of about 18 inches (45 centimetres).

The height of the wall was 1500 miles. A wall on this earth would need to be much more than 216 feet wide in order to support that height. But God did not use the materials of this earth when he built this city. The wall was jasper (a precious stone).

The city shone like the sun. The light seemed to shine through it. The whole city was of the most pure gold. John tries to tell us what this magnificent city is like. Here is a wonderful place.

Each of the 12 gates was a single pearl. Pearls were expensive to buy. People who owned pearls were rich. But the best pearls on this old earth are small. In the New Jerusalem, John saw pearls that were immense. These pearls were large enough to be city gates. The New Jerusalem will be a wealthy place.

The streets of the city were of pure gold. God’s people will be so rich that they walk on gold. This is a wonderful description. It shows the wealth of God that his people will enjoy with him.

God’s people will live in the New Jerusalem. God’s people means both Christians and the Jews who trust in Jesus the Messiah. There will be people who live in the rest of the new earth. We do not know who these will be.

The New Jerusalem will be the centre of the whole earth. The Lord will be the king of the earth. He will be the king over the kings of the nations.

It seems to me that I heard of a preacher and his devoted wife who were begging for funding to build a crystal palace.
It seems to me that the commentator at easy English thinks being rich is going to be important in heaven.... after all the commentary mentions "people will be so rich" a couple times.....

STUPID HUMANS... I.... I have friends who think that financial wealth is from god.

Matthew 19:24"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.”

The angel pointed out all the jasper, gold, and silver.... and those pearly gates are indeed impressive... as John described it.... but it's not about wealth.... it's about the best natural materials for the job. If I'm going to build 6,000 miles of wall [1,500 X 4] 1,500 miles high.... I'm not going to use concrete and rebar..... it wouldn't be feasible or safe! Jasper was used on the wall because Jasper would do the job. Paving the streets with gold may be opulent to stupid humans but layering the streets with molten gold is naturally a lot better than that nasty black tar humans chose.

When I was about 18.... I could buy a good freshly cut chuck roast for nineteen cents a pound..... that's less then a buck for a five pound roast.... financial wealth is relative. In Heaven, financial wealth is not an issue. Don't waste your time building a crystal palace.... God's is going to be better.... spend that time and wealth on caring for those around you.
