Revelation 6:9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God and the testimony they had maintained. 10 They called out in a loud voice, “How long, Sovereign Lord, holy and true, until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?” 11 Then each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters,[e] were killed just as they had been.
Revelation 6:11 The Greek word for brothers and sisters (adelphoi) refers here to believers, both men and women, as part of God’s family; also in 12:10; 19:10
The horses are gone. All the commentaries make this point right out of the gate. The fifth seal is something different. Jesus is opening the scroll that contains our fate. At the fifth seal John sees those who were murdered because of their faith. People that Paul had hunted before Jesus showed him the light. People who continued to spread the word after Jesus was crucified were in this number. People who died in prison because they were Christians were in this number. John was going to be in this number. He would eventually die because he loved Jesus.
Today, there are people who take guns to church and shoot people. Today there are children to take guns to school and, looking in the eyes of their victims, ask them if they believe in Jesus.
I googled Columbine and found the statement I have posted here. Now they claim it never happened. Really?
During the days following the killings in April of 1999, several of the students who were in the library where Cassie and others were shot said she had been confronted by one of the gunmen, Dylan Klebold, and asked whether she believed in God. It was reported that she said "yes" and was immediately shot and killed. Her story became a spark for spiritual renewal among many young people around the country and resulted in a best-selling book written by her mother, Misty Bernall.
There are people today who are martyred because of their faith. There is a full number of souls that will be martyred before Jesus avenges them. I guess we're not there yet.
