Revelation 8:6 Then the seven angels who had the seven trumpets prepared to sound them.
7 The first angel sounded his trumpet, and there came hail and fire mixed with blood, and it was hurled down on the earth. A third of the earth was burned up, a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up.
8 The second angel sounded his trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea turned into blood, 9 a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed.
10 The third angel sounded his trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. 11 the name of the star is Wormwood.[a] A third of the waters turned bitter, and many people died from the waters that had become bitter.
12 The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night.
13 As I watched, I heard an eagle that was flying in midair call out in a loud voice:
“Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!”

a. Revelation 8:11 Wormwood is a bitter substance.

I think this is pretty straight forward..... but here's the commentary from the easy English in case all the trumpets make us dizzy.

The first four trumpets affect a third of nature.
When the first angel sounded his trumpet, there was a great storm. The storm appeared in heaven. The skies were as red as blood. Then the storm poured down on the earth. There was hail, fire and blood.
The effects of the hail and fire were terrible. The fire burned a third of the land. All the trees and other plants on that land died.
The second angel sounded his trumpet. John saw what looked like a huge mountain. It burned with fire. As it burned, it fell into the sea. The effect of this was to make the sea red. A third of the sea became blood.
Then all that lived in that third of the sea died. All the ships on that part of the sea sank.
Then the third angel sounded his trumpet. A third of the fresh water on the earth became bitter. The cause was a huge star, which fell to earth. Its name was Wormwood. Many people who drank this bitter water died.
At the sound of the fourth trumpet, something struck the sun. The result was darkness for a third of the day. The same happened to the moon and the stars. Their light did not shine for a third of the night.
The effects of the first four trumpets were terrible. But the effects of the last three would be even worse. The eagle warned that the last three trumpets would bring awful trouble. The first four affected only part of the world. The last three would affect all the people on earth.

According to Google..... there are 7.9 Billion people in the world today. One third of the population would be 2.6 Billion people. A half a billion have died due to COVID.... but they are not part of the 2.9 Billion because the 2.9 Billion are gone due to natural disasters... not plague.... that's in the next chapter.

There has been some conjecture that the end has already started. 2.9 Billion people are going to die in the next chapter. Have we lost 2.9 people in one series of events since Noah's flood?

How many people died during the floods? One commentary says "all but 8"..... another commentary says "none... it never happened". The commentary at Bible Science Guy says there might have been 10 trillion people on earth when the flood took out all but 8. Yep I thought that was a bit high too... but then I read the article... humans didn't die young..... they didn't have abortions.... and healthy women are capable of having babies like puppies or piglets..... so multiple births were common back then.... apparently.

Here we sit.... us smart humans..... arguing over climate control..... If there were 10 trillion before the flood.... what makes us think our measly 7.9 billion number would survive these natural disasters..... oh and let's not forget.... there was an earthquake already.... it leveled mountains and brought the earth at the bottom of the ocean to the surface.... it was a rocking of the earth's plates that made the rocks scream..... so how many of the 7.9 billion would be left after the earthquake anyway......

I got this from enduringword.com.

These first four trumpets reveal the severity of God’s judgment. He attacks all the ordinary means of subsistence, such as food and water; and He attacks all the ordinary means of comfort, and knowledge, such as light and the regular rhythm of days.
Man has come to see these aspects of the created order as impersonal, perpetual forces. During the great tribulation, God proclaims His Lordship through their agonizing disruption.
iWe know the great humility that comes upon men in the midst of something like an earthquake, because they know that “nature” is not as reliable as they had thought. With these four trumpets, that effect will be multiplied greatly.
The first four trumpets also reveal the mercy of God’s judgment; these are partial judgments striking only one-third, and are meant to warn and lead a rebellious world to repentance before the final curtain. For now, God spares more than He smites.
People have been saying that the eagle in the Book of Revelation is the United States..... well here.... if we substitute the words "United States of America" for the words "an eagle" it would read like this.... "As I watched, I heard the United States of America was flying in midair call out in a loud voice: “Woe! Woe! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the trumpet blasts about to be sounded by the other three angels!” Well that makes sense.... we are the big mouths of the world.... and our nose is in everybody's business all the time.... and we are quite vocal about climate change...... but really.... are we that self centered that we think the US is going to do anything this organized after the earthquake? Remember the FEMA response after Katrina? I just don't think so.... our whole west coast is quakes constantly. When that little quake hit Virginia a few years ago.... the DC Metro area was all distraught because some buildings were damaged..... and I'm not sure the repairs have really been completed yet.

So.... whatcha think? Is the eagle in Revelation the good ol' US of A? I just don't think so..... I think it's a sign the strong birds could survive an earthquake the size of the one that's on its way.... because they are strong enough to be where they can land near water.... and there will be plenty of scavengers for the eagles to feed on.... right?
