And it's not just Starbucks, they all do it. Billionaires going, "Hmmm...we need to cut costs....well it can't be my massive compensation package...or the perks for our battalion of middle managers.....and we certainly can't cut our DEI programs and political activism....so we'll have to cut employee holiday bonuses..."

"OBTW, when we fire people we make sure to do it right before Christmas. We're festive that way."

It IS really bad PR - but - to be honest, the top brass do NOT make enough money to get the costs down.
This is true just about everywhere -

AVERAGE annual bonus at Starcbucks is 6000 bucks.
You have a CEO that makes say, 50 million, you give 6000 dollar bonuses to 200,000 employees - that's over a billion dollars.

(I remember this, years ago, when top computer CEOs were raking in millions - and you did the math and saw, if you took away the entire board's compensation and spread it out to the employees - it wasn't much.)

You'd think, sure, screw the barista - but some of the corporate execs are getting nothing, and no raises they were promised.
Starbucks is massively overpriced coffee trying to survive in a crappy economy - and Dunkin and McDonald's ARE cutting in on their previously non-competitive business. They're not just doing worse, they're doing terrible.

I mean, I GET the whole, geez, why don't they take away the rich guy's money, but as in all things, the problem isn't that he makes so much - it's that the company isn't making enough.

So are you trying to tell me that a Starbucks barista gets a $6k bonus? Because I will suggest that that *average* is so high because of what the top brass and middle managers get. More information is needed before I believe that a coffee slinger gets that kind of bonus.

There is a crap TON of vanity spending in corporate America. We know that for a fact.

barista bonus...not much.. About the same as what SGI receives every Christmas. His boss is generous like that.

Pretty sure my daughter who worked for them for eight years might have mentioned a 6K bonus. Of course, she avoided becoming a manager so she could focus on getting her degree as she saw the life the managers had and was not goal end up in that trap. Turns out she was right, she now works a desk job doing stuff she enjoys making good money and going into the office once a month or so.

If I may ...
For your consideration ...

Let's see now . . . . . Starbucks has a market cap of $115.09 Billion. The new CEO, as of Aug '24, Brian Niccol, of Starbucks, has a pay package worth up to $113 Million. Does anyone think that reducing worker bonuses, is to simply reduce costs? The primary responsibility of the CEO of any publicly traded corporation, pretty much by law, is to increase profits to their shareholders. This is a Christmas gift to shareholders. Had those regular bonuses been given out, it most likely would have affected Starbucks' stock price in a negative way. And can't have that, now can we?

Surprisingly, Starbucks sure is hurting ...... /s

Well I looked it up elsewhere.

A typical barista gets just about 100. I said average. A store manager gets a lot more. The average doesn’t say much - what we want to see is “median” - the single amount most people get, and an average is skewed by multiples of large numbers.

But what I’m saying is still - the cut is across the board. People who get 6k or more, they’re getting the cut too.

And it’s not so much rich CEOs raking in the dough. It’s years of Starbucks charging 10 bucks for mediocre coffee.

It's both.

Not just CEOs making bank but all the crazy departments have a team as well. I guarantee you they have a team of at least 20 people who come up with ways to incorporate woke policy and promotions. The baristas are the least of it, and they get paid the least, and their bonus means more to them than someone who's already pulling down $200k/yr+.

*And* bougie coffee is losing its fad status. Nobody gets excited about the pumpkin latte anymore. It's not all the rage. Once everyone is doing it, hipster kids move on to something else. Starbucks oversaturated and now they're going to have to figure it out or go away.
