Do a search on "Shockoe Slip" and "Shockoe Bottom". The majority of the best restaurants/bars are in these two areas. The heart of the city along Broad street also has offerings.

For Saturday or Sunday Brunch go to Millies! http://milliesdiner.com

Eclectic, your own personal juke box at each table. Awesome food and killer bloody marys's! Used to be first come first serve, may have added reservations, check website. Try and get there early, place fills-up early and busy.

Ok thanks I'll check those out. We've got plans Saturday night my cousin who lives there will be taking us around...but I've gotta figure out the rest of the time.

We ended up doing small plates at two restaurants when we were in Richmond. (both are apparently pretty popular)

The first was Pasture http://www.pastureva.com/ (my personal favorite) its new southern type food and everything we had was excellent. Stand outs were the pimento cheese & ritz...mmm man it was good! Their fried clams...I'm still dreaming about those they were incredible! Also were these smoked ribs that were covered in a white BBQ sauce. I'd never had that before and omg it was amazing. I have no idea what it was but it was great. They also had frito pie, which the guys said was very good ( I can't eat chili so I can't comment say but I trust their opinions and everything else was excellent)

The second was Rappahanock https://www.rroysters.com/restaurants/rappahannock its an upscale oyster bar. The oysters were great and they had a large selection of local. Prices were also good for the oysters. They had a special appetizer for the evening not on the menu that we also got it was charred bread that was spread w/ an English pea puree, then topped w/ micro greens & in house smoked salmon. It was very good. We also got their charcuterie plate (if a restaurant has a charcuterie I'm getting it!!) I wasn't really impressed w/ theirs. The blood sausage was super super sweet and over powered w/ cinnamon. The accompaniments on charcuterie plates normally compliment the meats but I just don't think theirs did that. But other than that everything was quite good.

I'd definitely go back to both places!
