Rock Fishing tomorrow

Tomorrow (May 1st) starts rockfish season. I will be out on a charter with friends and family. Hoping that we have a good day of catching and not just fishing. Any other forumites going to be out on the water fishing for rockfish?

I'm not but a lot of my friends will be . I generally go to the marinas around noon to get some Striper carcasses for the garden . Been quite a few years since I've gotten a good haul .

Good luck with your charter !!🎣🎣🎣

I'm biding my time waiting for the perch to hit the creeks. The skiff is almost ready for paint. I'm so sick of fiberglassing it's not even funny. Hopefully the job I did will outlast me, and my son won't have to worry about it after I'm long gone.

Catch a big one!

Better check your knots. And inspect your line for nicks. You don't want to hear that line pop when the MD record rockfish decides to head to the bottom of the bay with your umbrella rig.

Great. #2 son left the skiff on the other side of the island last night after deciding he'd had a few too many at the party to be bringing it back around late in the dark. ;-(

Captain called me this morning and cancelled the trip saying rough waves and 30 kt winds and after talking to the other boat captains, they are getting beat up and heading in. Trip is rescheduled. Better safe than sorry and I want all to have a good time and not be sick.

Just sneakin' around....
We used to go wreck diving in the Atlantic. 34' boat, very long waves that towered over the top antenna. Not a lot of fun.

There was no water in the river on Saturday.
And yet you should have seen a few folks still try to get up into the Port Tobacco Marina and getting stuck. Even saw someone in a canoe get stuck up further by the RV park.

Ain't that something? We used to take advantage of the extremely low tides when we were kids. I can't even begin to tell you how many Rumsford baking soda bottles we collected on those tides.

I was always told that catfish feed by smell/taste. Try telling that to Potomac catfish. Locals have been catching more cats trolling than rockfish.
