Rocks Thrown From Overpass Hit Cars on Beltway

OXON HILL, Md. - What a frightening experience drivers along the Capital Beltway encountered Saturday night. Their vehicles were pelted with rocks and bricks, state police say.

It happened just south of Route 414/St. Barnabas Road around 7:30 p.m., prompting police to step up patrols in the area.

At the scene, 22 drivers pulled over, but Maryland State Police Sgt. Bill McMeins tells WTOP police have received even more calls from people who were afraid to stop.

McMeins says it looks like the rocks and bricks were thrown at the cars from a nearby construction site. Drivers ended up covered in glass or with the objects protruding into their vehicles. Nobody was hurt. No arrests have been made. Police say they think three to five young men are responsible.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 301- 568-8101.

True, and that's why mandatory sterilization needs to be put in place until a pre-approved couple are allowed to conceive.

We are going to Hell in a hand basket.

If you can't afford them, have the mentality for them, you can't have them...even then, we are overpopulated, and a one child rule needs to be the norm.

Pre-approval to have even one, and then you get de-sterilized...if it doesn't work, you can adopt.

That probably won't happen in my life-time, but I see it coming if the world wants to save itself.

I agree with most of what you said but I think people should be allowed to have more than one child as long as they are capable of raising them to be productive members of society. It will never happen though, we are letting more and more slide, they will never infringe on anyone's "rights" as to tell them they can or can't have children. Something needs to be done though, and fast. I am a strong supporter of mandatory military time for people who are being sentenced to prison, we should start there.

Going into the military is an honorable thing.

I want to see the prison guys/gals doing the slop work on the side of the roads...IN CHAINS. The only pay they get, is their 3 square meals a day. More than many get nowadays. Actually, there is nothing wrong with them getting 2, and living in tents...I'm sick of these criminals getting off because there is no room in the prisons for them.

You get taught HOW to be a productive citizen in the military, something that you obviously don't already know how to do. What does slop work teach you? It teaches you to be more careful to not get caught next time you decide to do something illegal. The military can teach you not to do it at all

Military time for small time offenders might work but that's a practice that has been in place since I first joined the Navy. The problem with the practice is that the ones that are given the choice of the military or prison are already acting up against authority figures in their lives. The military already is having problems with discipline without adding to the problem.

The one-child policy was implemented in China as a way to stop the population growth. The problem encountered was that when a girl was born, her chance for survival was much less that that of a boy. Those that did survive were, in many cases given up for adoption so the couple could try for a boy. This is pointed out more clearly in This Article

Putting misfit teens in the Army when they ran afoul of the law is a thing of the past. Now adays, the military bounces these misfits as quickly as they can in basic. You really really don't want to arm these cretins.

You cannot trust the Army of One when that One is there by virtue of breaking the law.
