The Rockville Barrack will be hosting Civilian Response to Active Shooter Training on August 22, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. The one and one half hour training was developed by The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University. ALERRT was created in 2002 as a partnership between Texas State University, the San Marcos, Texas Police Department and the Hays County, Texas Sheriff’s Office to address the need for active shooter response training for first responders. In 2013, ALERRT at Texas State was named the National Standard in Active Shooter Response Training by the FBI.
The Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) course designed and built on the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) strategy developed by ALERRT in 2004, provides strategies, guidance, and a proven plan for surviving an active shooter event. Topics include the history and prevalence of active shooter events, civilian response options, medical issues, and considerations for conducting drills.
