Rodney King was detained after a disturbance at a clothing store in the 1200 block of North Lake Avenue at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, a Pasadena police sergeant told the Pasadena Star-News.
Officers called to the scene found two outstanding misdemeanor warrants for the 41-year-old and arrested him without incident. He was released Wednesday after a court appearance.
King, who was born in Sacramento, became a symbol of police brutality when amateur photographer George Holliday videotaped four LAPD officers using batons to beat him after a car chase on March 3, 1991.
On April 29, 1992, a Simi Valley jury acquitted the officers of state charges alleging excessive use of force, sparking four days of riots that left 55 dead, 2,383 injured and $1 billion in property damage.
Two of the officers were convicted in 1993 on federal charges of violating King's civil rights and served 30 months in prison.
King has had at least nine other brushes with law enforcement since the beating, including arrests based on allegations of DUI and hit-and-run, indecent exposure, assault, and drug use.
