“The president is guilty of an appalling abuse of public trust. What he did was not perfect. No, it was a flagrant assault of our electoral rights, our national security and our fundamental values,” he said.

Romney appeared to choke up as he stood for a long moment before delivering his verdict. He acknowledged it was a very difficult decision.

It's happened before we can hope it happens again in Utah. I won't hold my breath though. If it can happen in Calif removing a D gov it can happen anywhere!

In the last several weeks, I have received numerous calls and texts. Many demand that, in their words, "I stand with the team." I can assure you that that thought has been very much on my mind. I support a great deal of what the President has done. I have voted with him 80% of the time. But my promise before God to apply impartial justice required that I put my personal feelings and biases aside. Were I to ignore the evidence that has been presented, and disregard what I believe my oath and the Constitution demands of me for the sake of a partisan end, it would, I fear, expose my character to history's rebuke and the censure of my own conscience.

The President asked a foreign government to investigate his political rival.

The President withheld vital military funds from that government to press it to do so.

The President delayed funds for an American ally at war with Russian invaders.

The President's purpose was personal and political.

Accordingly, the President is guilty of an appalling abuse of the public trust.

What he did was not "perfect"— No, it was a flagrant assault on our electoral rights, our national security interests, and our fundamental values. Corrupting an election to keep oneself in office is perhaps the most abusive and destructive violation of one's oath of office that I can imagine.

Pretty sure any recall at the state level would be unconstitutional given that the Constitution places the power to expel members to each House specifically.

I would applaud Romney IF I believed he was actually voting his conscience. But my sense is that he's just plain envious. Not mind-reading; simply connecting all the dots over the years about the guy.

Romney knows he's utterly irrelevant now and into the future so he's making his mark on the pages of history by going down as the lone Republican to vote against acquittal/for conviction.

For such a tall guy Romney's a remarkably small "man."

There’s an unshakeable self-satisfaction that Romney exudes when he goes on heavy-headed tours, demarcating to the adoring left how he is decidedly different from all the other GOP members.

Yes, he’s different from many others within the GOP in the sense that he has no firm principles upon which to base his political decisions besides self-interest and self-importance. He is vaguely in favor of free markets insofar as he appreciates a pro-business environment, having been a businessman once. But that seems to be the extent of his political personality.
